All by his lonesome, Little Chick survived his first super busy Sunday entirely on his own. Perhaps he needs a new grown up name, such as Tuffers, something that recognizes his strong little spirit–or instinct for survival–subject to how anthropomorphic your views. I’ve gotten used to calling him Little Chick, but am open to suggestions ūüôā

Thirty-nine-day old Piping Plover

You’ll never see this when you come to the beach after 8:00am because our awesome DPW beach crews and volunteer beach-picker-uppers do a tremendous job cleaning the beach each and very day.

Just saying, for some folks, after a day of fun and relaxation, they must be too worn out to pick up their belongings and garbage.

Wood, Wire and Wind

Sunday, August 20 at 8:00pm

Annisquam Village Church
820 Washington Street, Gloucester MA

Beverly and Andrew Soll complete our summer series on Sunday, August 20th  at 8 PM with a concert on the three Adams instruments that reside at the Village Church. Besides the 13-stop gallery organ with its bold voices and fiery reeds, the Adams two-manual Flemish harpsichord (to be played by Beverly Soll) and the highly resonant chamber organ on the church’s altar will change up the spectrum of sound.  A violin and viola join in on a Mozart piece in this eclectic, imaginative program ranging across six centuries of fascinating music.

A reception¬†follows each concert, providing the occasion for¬†declamation of an ‚ÄúOde‚ÄĚ from Annisquam‚Äôs beloved bard, Duncan Nelson.

Tickets:   $20 per event  (Students and seniors, $15.)  are available at the door or in advance at The Bookstore or Diamond Cove Music in Gloucester and at Toad Hall Bookstore in Rockport.

The Annisquam Village Church is located at 820 Washington Street in Gloucester (01930) and is handicap accessible.

Thank you Sista Felicia!

I do my best to put a little ‚ÄúBridgette‚ÄĚ spin on things that I do just because I enjoy it, but sometimes I overwhelm myself.¬†¬† I know, I know‚Ķthis kind of mayhem is self-inflicted, but it‚Äôs a kind of crazy illness that I learn to live with.¬†¬† So last week when I was going nuts in preparation for my daughter Lindsey‚Äôs Bridal shower and there was one project that I had in my head but was putting off because I just didn‚Äôt know how to pull it off¬† (I may be many things but a seamstress is not one of them!) Felicia jumped aboard the crazy train and just took this bag full of crap I‚Äôve been collecting and made it into more than I could ever have imagined myself!¬†¬† I am so grateful to her for not only creating this amazingly gorgeous ring bearer pillow made from my wedding gown, my mom‚Äôs wedding gown and a special pillowcase of my mother-in-laws, but then going beyond and creating a breathtaking keepsake bridal handkerchief for my daughter on her wedding day in a couple months.¬†¬† ¬†Lindsey was so touched and we were all brought to tears the moment she opened it.¬†¬† Thank you for your friendship and just for “getting me” without my even having to say anything! ‚̧ ‚̧ ‚̧IMG_4526IMG_4527

SSV Oliver Hazard Perry at slumber

Found the Sailing School Vessel Oliver Hazard Perry slumbering off of Eastern Point early this morning.  SSV Oliver Hazard Perry is the largest civilian Sailing School Vessel in the United States. Oliver Hazard Perry is the first ocean-going full-rigged ship to built in the U.S. in over 100 years. Her accommodations hold 32 people overnight in addition to her 17 professional crew.  You can read more about her here.

I took this photo below of her under sail during Sail Boston last month.

A Little Personal History to Start!

Hi, my name is Charlene delaney. ¬†I’m ¬†a Tennessee girl that traveled the country and world my first 20 years with my father who was serving his country. ¬†My life took me to a lot of our country and ¬†some of the world. ¬†Most of my teen years in Europe, but have to give a shout out to South Korea. ¬†Forty-six years ago a guy I was dating brought me to dinner at the Surf in Magnolia and then took me for a ride around the back shore of Gloucester, what he called the most beautiful, peaceful place he knew, one he had come to for years, a truly happy place. ¬†I think I fell in love with him and Gloucester that night. ¬†He was a Marblehead guy that became my husband, but throughout the years Gloucester was always a happy place for us. ¬†Seventeen years ago we moved here full time and without a doubt I love this beautiful city more than any other place I’ve lived. ¬†It has changed over the years but has always gotten better. ¬†The people and places of this city fill my heart with love!

Hope my post will give you a new appreciation for the City where I  live, work and play.
