I got to go on an amazing walk with FOB, Ann Kennedy during her and Bob’s visit here from Missouri. They are staying at a home at Ames Estate in Bay View, so we walked along the shore and out around the islands. On the rocks of the furthest island, we came upon this large flock of sandpiper type birds. I had noticed the flock flying in when we first started our walk, but didn’t expect to encounter them. They were very tame, as you can see by the photo of Ann photographing them from only a few feet away, or maybe they are migrating and were just tired. The gulls were very unconcerned about our presence as well. It was amazing to see that many in one place at once, and to be able to get so close to them. A very special walk, as my walks with Ann are every time she and Bob come to Gloucester. So glad we got to spend time together, Bob and Ann, and that we have been able to become such nice friends through Good Morning Gloucester. Look forward to seeing you again next year.
These might be Sanderlings, but I’m not sure. Anyone know?

So beautiful to see E.J.; thank you for sharing! I think they are sanderlings although your title is accurate because Sanderlings are a type of sandpiper.

Thanks Kim. I knew you’d know. Have you ever seen that many of them together at one time? I never had, and Ann and I were both so excited to see them, and then to be able to get so close to them.

I believe it was our being out there together that created the magic of seeing all that we saw and experienced. I go on many walks alone, but I don’t see the things I see when we walk together. I can’t wait until you return again and see what we discover then!

Beautiful EJ and Ann, thank you for sharing this beautiful story – This brought back lot’s of memories for this fella in both location and movies at that time I lived there. How they have world-wide reach! We used to play baseball and football in the field right behind the granite wall there off Washington street.
Also, nice shady spot in summer sitting on the walls. thank you! I was a whooping ten when this movie came out!
