growing up in gloucester and knowing full well the fishing industry having come from generations of fisherman it saddens me what has become of the industry due to NOAA’s restrictions who is regulating the fishing boats off the two mile limit where they process the fish on board the ship. no quotas there is there? no one oversees what they catch freeze or put in a can where is the justice for the poor new england gloucestermen who have fished our shores for years.

Outstanding, but in the end, an unhappy tale. The detachment of the “kid” from NOAA spoke volumes. We get the government we elect.

Heartbreaking to watch for me growing up that way 50’s to late 60’s – I don’t understand throwing back the over-catch keep it and take an extra day off or re-adjust quota donate it like they Capt. said. I watched George Morey, Duke, come into lanes cove 50’s -60’s with dories at the water line. Hand pull it up from dory to landing by pulley, us kids in the water collecting what dropped he always give us some for our efforts. And the wisdom and traditions passed on to us youngsters kept up strong and able to face what life through at us during hard times some call it stubborn (I call it great mentors and leadership). There were some bad years and some good years and his nets were just outside the break-wall where the summer cottages were now year round residents. In in the off season he did the Christmas tree’s reminds you of the home alone series except on the water. 🙂
It’s in tradition and blood line like many professions Policeman, fireman, ambulance, military, retirement and to walk away is hard – and especially so when passed down from generation to generation. How do you break that spirit from within (You don’t it’s part of you)! It’s extremely difficult to see this!
Great job on this production and to the folks who do it every day do what your heart tells you! God Bless you all and hope for a better tomorrow…There is nothing like bringing it home fresh with your own hands believe me!
I will say too the tranquility, beauty, and oneness with team – there are no words for that!
