Need for dredging Annisquam
Good morning Joey,
If u b a boater then u know how badly dredging is needed on the Annisquam River. This is one of many boaters that have run aground in the river between R 34 and R36.. Perhaps I could send ongoing pics of boats aground to dramatize the need as part of a campaign to get the river dredged. Love your blog.

I think it’s a great idea to have the Annisquam River dredged… at least in some area’s. It going to have to be done eventually, but this would be an enormous undertaking at a great deal of expense… Just curious, who pays for this? Is this covered by our State Tax dollars. Again, I think it is something that needs to be done, but just curious about expense and who foots the bill…

Neighbor of mine works for Army Corp of Engineers, said last week they have been doing core samples of entire river for a while now and are done. $ has been approved, but would not say when work will be done. Fingers crossed this winter.

You always knew when they were dredging had the barge and crane…I did a quick look and found this too! FYI: It was in this document also!

Well, it keeps the riff-raff out. But seriously folks, the Annisquam navigable waters are controlled by the Army Corp of Engineers. They last dredged back in the early seventies. The bottom is still as smooth as a baby’s rear-end, which explains the lack of lobsters, fish, etc. They have been threatening to return since at least 1992, which was when I remember first discussing a related project with the officer-in-charge.
