Say a man gets together with his male buddies every so often for poker night where they shoot the shit about man stuff and drink copious amounts of beer and one of the wives randomly drops in 3 weeks in a row. Is that strange or totally acceptable?
Would It Be Strange For A Woman To Drive Across Town To Casually Drop In On Her Husband’s Poker Night With His Male Friends?

It sounds like there’s a back-story here which deserves to be told (and I look forward to it!). But anyway, as a guy who has played in the same neighborhood Thursday night poker game for a quarter of a century, I can say that most wives who dropped in on us would quickly find that there was nothing fishy going on, and start looking at her watch.
Here’s why: my wife asks, the next morning, what do you guys talk about at your game? I answer, what, talk? we don’t talk. We play cards. The conversation is pretty much this: what’s the game? (it’s dealer’s choice) followed by call, raise, fold, et cetera. It is considered a breach of manners for any player to introduce a subject of conversation which is not relevant to poker, or, occasionally, to work, vacation or a good joke — and keep it short.
By and large, most any woman I have ever known would leave our game shaking her head and find herself a good book. Women have more sense than we do. But we do laugh our butts off!

Bill, Rozzie is the smartest woman I know, but she doesn’t get rules — she could play poker better than me (wouldn’t be hard) but she can’t remember whether a straight beats a flush. BTW, I will be at brother Steve’s for a few nights August 11-18, for a wedding in Maine on the 15th. It would be great to see you! Hope you and the family are all aces up!

Of course it is not only strange, it is stalkerish and controlling. Couriosity is one thing, but mistrust is poisonous. People have to be able get together with friends without their partners or spouses. That’s only healthy.
