A Duckworth’s Valentine’s

Thanks to the fabulous Chef Ken Duckworth, along with his wonderfully welcoming and hard working staff, for making a Valentine’s to remember. Duckworth’s was overflowing with guests last night–no one wanted to leave as it was so warm and cozy there–and Tom and I just had the best time catching up with neighborhood friends. We all relished in our good fortune to be seated at the Duckworth’s Table for Valentine’s Day. Thank you Chef Ken and Family for the Best Ever Valentine’s Day Dinner!

Lobster Risotto Ken Duckworth ©Kim Smith 2015Chef Ken’s Sublime Lobster Risotto ~ Tip: order the full serving and eat half (not to worry, the portions are hugely generous). Eat the other half for lunch the following day–doubly delish! Apologies please, my grainy phone photos don’t do this favorite dish justice.

One Last Snow Photo

Photo out my window. There are three cars out there but I can only spot one car antenna. Must be the truck.

OK, one more, and yes I know about ice dams. Maybe I can sneak my hand out there and turn the grill on high. That might do it.

Before you know it the planet wobbles the other way and it is 4th of July in Rockport and Rubber Duck is getting soft in the heat from the leftover bonfire.

No App For That!

Joey has a fantastic idea going on here!  Shovelers Needed vs. People Looking To Earn $$ and Help Out Others. No Brainer. I’ll be the 1st to sign up my boys when they’re a tad bit older!

Saw this and couldn’t help but chuckle.  Sadly, a sign of the times for sure.

Rockport Storm Report: 9:45 a.m.

I haven’t ventured out of the house yet this morning, but I can tell you this much….  It is WINDY!

We have had just over a foot of new snow fall since Neptune started yesterday afternoon.  Lots of news channels in town including Channel 7 and CNN. Chris Anderson from 7 News just said, “Rockport has been a Rock during this last storm.”

We’ve been judging the ridiculousness of it all by the size of the massive snow drift in the back corner of our yard.  It is now many inches over our fence and prime for more stand-up sledding in a little while.  We have also been laughing at the scary dorsal fin that has been rising from the depths of the snow on our deck.

Our front yard looks OK…nothing crazy out there yet.  My Jeep is not covered, the deck has some new accumulation, and the driveway has been plowed in with a couple of new feet of snow.

It was exciting to come home yesterday and find the National Guard taking care of our street.  Smith Road had become so narrow that I had to do a 3 point turn to get in and out of our driveway. Likewise, we had suffered a couple of stand-offs when faced with oncoming cars on our little street.  Really nice guys out of Vermont.  One commented on the fact that despite the crazy amounts of snow, Rockport looked like a nice little town.  We told him to come back during the summer for sure.

Joss Whedon Quote of the Week from Greg Bover

February 14, 2015

The one thing a creator can bring to the table when everybody else has all the money and power, is centeredness and the ability to walk away. Never sit at a table you can’t walk away from.

Joseph H. “Joss” Whedon (1964-    )

The grandson, son and brother of screenwriters, Whedon is perhaps best known as the creator of the TV series Buffy the Vampire Slayer, although he also co-wrote Toy Story, and is the co-founder of the production companies Bellwether and Mutant Enemy. He wrote and directed The Avengers, the third highest grossing film of all time. Through his collaborations with Marvel Comics and Marvel Studios he created several series of graphic novels and sequential films sharing a common “universe” and themes centering on feminism, anti-authoritarianism, existentialism, and the importance of community. Winner of the Emmy and Saturn Awards, Whedon created the sci-fi cult-classic Firefly series and its follow-on movie Serenity.
