Hi Joe,

On Monday, April 21st from 11-4, State Rep Candidate will host an event to thank our police, fire, and military heroes on Cape Ann. The event will be held at Cape Ann GOP Headquarters, 184 Washington Street, Gloucester, MA. There will be refreshments, and a t.v. viewing of the Boston Marathon and the Boston Red Sox game. There will be craft items for children to make cards to send overseas to soldiers. We will also be collecting items to send overseas, such as snack foods, magazines, books, games, CDs, DVDs, and anything else to help our soldiers, through the Hugs for Heroes program.
Bob Whynott encourages everyone to attend and take a minute on Patriot’s Day to thank our heroes.

Believe it or not, I’m going to jail and I need your help. While it’s not a real jail, it’s even more important as I’m raising bail to help children and adults with muscle disease in my community who are supported by the vital work of the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). I might not be able to rely on good behavior to get out so that’s why I need your help – I need you to donate to my bail! Just click on the donation button to make a secure donation – I know that together we’ll Make a Muscle and Make a Difference in the fight against muscle disease.

The North Shore United Way and SeniorCare are making the farmers market more available to Gloucester Seniors
NSUW has awarded a Discretionary Grant to SeniorCare in order to allow 60 more low-income seniors in Gloucester to access the Cape Ann Farmer’s Market. Each spring and summer, SeniorCare distributes $25 coupon cards to low-income seniors in Gloucester in order to encourage recipients to shop at farmers markets and consume more fruits and vegetables. The coupons also support farmers markets that serve low-income residents. Major funding for the program is provided by the MA Department of Agricultural Resources and the Executive Office of Elder Affairs and anyone interested in obtaining a coupon should contact SeniorCare at 866-927-1050.
The North Shore United Way awards one-time Discretionary Grants up to $5,000 to launch new or innovative programs on the North Shore or for agencies with emergency needs. Margo Casey, Executive Director of the NSUW, said “We are very pleased to fill in where other funding sources are not able to fully meet this need for seniors in Gloucester.”
In its decision to fund the Senior Farmer’s Market program at SeniorCare, NSUW recognized this unique program achieves two of the North Shore United Way’s community goals simultaneously: Senior Care meets basic needs and improves financial security by providing coupons to purchase food. The program also improves health and wellbeing by making fruits and vegetables more available.
