Thoughts And Prayers Go Out To The Family Of Our Friend Jackie Hardy

I first met Jackie as part of our founding group of Block Party organizers.  I can tell you this- there was never a doubt that we couldn’t have done what we got done without Jackie clearing the way to make them such a hit.

Never a doubt that Jackie always put the city and her constituents best interests first.   She was a councilor who did what was right for the city and put the decision making based on what was right and not on politics.

A great Gloucesterite and one of the best City Councilors ever.  Thanks for all you’ve done to make this a better place Jackie.

God bless you and our thoughts are with your family.

Note from Joey- The picture above didn’t come in with this press release, It’s an oldie I had from our Block Party Days Smile

Jackie Hardy Rocks!

I would like to publicly thank Jackie Hardy and the rest of our Block Party committee for being so fucking outstanding in their commitment to making the Block Parties the best they could possibly be.  She is awesome and y’all better vote for her come election day.

Back to your regularly scheduled programming.

Team Can Do

I can’t even express how lucky I feel to have worked with our team on the first ever Downtown Block Party.

Work is a funny word though because not for a second did it feel that way.  It was 100% positive energy.

Erika and Dave Hansen, Peter and Vickie Van Ness, Janice, Jackie Hardy, the Council,  the performers, the Police, the liquor licensing board, Donna Ardizzoni paying for the banners, Steve Noble and Ringo Tarr for helping with the lights, Cathy Tarr for donating the domain name, Lee Bolton for providing technical assistance, Ernie Morin with his fantastic slide show.

You wanna know who else deserves much credit?

The restaurant owners who did everything we asked of them to get the permitting done and make their seating outside cool and funky.
The YMCA Street Team for helping out keep the place clean.

The Folks at seARTS that jumped on board and moved their art exhibits on Center street to coincide with the Block Party.   The stores that had cheese and grapes.

The list goes on and on and on, point being that it was all GLOUCESTER PEOPLE pitching in for their own great vibe and giving of and to each other.

It was positive energy put forth from positive people, it was destined to be great from the start.

Thank you, thank you, thank you, for everyone that helped out and came down to rediscover how incredible downtown Gloucester with it’s cool coffee shops, incredible restaurants and unique retailers and art scene really is.

I feel like the luckiest guy on earth as I write this.

Erika, Dave, Peter, Vickie, Janice, and Jackie -the team with the positive vision and energy to carry it out, I don’t really know how it became that we all got together for this thing but I would assemble the same team 100 times out of 100 to do it all over again.

Team Can Do, we got ‘er done.

Downtown Gloucester Block Party August 16th -Be There!

Downtown Gloucester Block Party, originally uploaded by captjoe06.

Thanks to the hard work and efforts of Janice Lufkin Shea, Councilor Jacki Hardy, Erika Hansen, Peter and Vickie Van Ness it looks like the request to close Main Street was voted favorably and unanimously to recommend to the full city council the granting of the permit as requested (with conditions).
The block party was voted in favor unanimously last night. 8-0 vote with several councilors expressing their desire to see this type of thing happen more often.
Bring your lawn chairs, get ready to dance and play and enjoy all that is Gloucester community spirit!
We Rock!
