This was great and a good reminder that working at sea had it’s unique drawbacks, some of which I witnessed or heard as it was happening over the radio. Some of these memories were so personal and dramatic I’ll never forget them and I’m going to try to get wordpress working to see more of your stuff as everything I’ve seen from you has been an adventure it’self. My sincerest thanks.

I know you realize that my last comment was for the slide show of shipwrecks, but the soap box derby does bring back memories or building our own carts and racing them from the driveway atop Bright Side Ave to what was then the St. Peter’s church rectory driveway. We did some real dumb things as kids and it’s nice to see the safety features of the derby, although no one would suggest our dad’s help in building these, my fastest was made from wheels stolen from Stop and Shop cart wheels when all it took was a wrench to remove them.

Thanks for the great video, Marty, I think you caught the excitement of the event and what a great feel-good day it is for all involved. The committee’s work doesn’t end on race day either. All these kids will be eligible for the Fish Box Derby’s two yearly $1,000 scholarships when they go on to higher education.
And Instant replay? Wow.
