That may not seem so strange, but Maureen Farley is from Ipswich, MA and Jon Bartlett is from Ipswich, England. They met at the Rhumb Line in Gloucester, although Jon came here specifically to visit Ipswich. Maureen is a friend of the blog, Jon has now been introduced to the blog and plans to take his shiny new GMG sticker back to England with him and represent from Ipswich, and then take a trip to Gloucester, England and represent from there. I have a feeling Jon is a new FOB in the making, and that we’ll be seeing him back in Gloucester (USA that is) soon. And don’t he and Maureen make a cute couple?

Bad Ass!!!!!!!!!

He’s on a roll, folks. Every week we hear a new Allen Estes song — and they keep getting better too! This gem is featured on Local Music Seen TONIGHT at 6:30 on Cape Ann TV Channel 12. Chelsea Berry is Allen’s guest on this week’s show — and she has a beautiful new song too — must be something in the air!
If case you forgot, Chelsea will be opening for Chris Isaak at North Shore Music Theatre on June 28 with her new band — and they ROCK. Imagine Chelsea’s powerful voice soaring over a rockin’ new band. This will be the first time you can see them together on a magical night in an intimate listening venue with perfect sound. Tickets are selling fast, so don’t wait until the last minute — get tickets here.
Sun’s out today. Seven shows tonight. Summer’s here in spirit. Check out the music lineup here.

Johnny Johnny Johnny. How long have I been telling you that wearing these skinny jeans just ain’t right. I didn’t need no stinkin doctor to tell me.
Isn’t it obvious that when your junk is all mashed up inside your body cavity that it just isn’t normal?
Please Johnny we don’t want to see you do any more irreparable damage to yourself than you already have.
I’m sure second Glance or The Dress Code can take that closet full of skinny jeans of yours off your hands.
Before it’s too late Johnny. You mean too much to the our community with all of the civic minded good that you do. Please. If not for your boy Joey C, if not for your community, then do it for Luke and Ruby so when pictures of you surface when they are in college they won’t have to deny you as their father or just say it was some terrible photoshop joke that made it look that way.
Sunday evening, (Memorial Day Sunday) 6pm-9pm, Allen Estes and his son Dylan, will be performing at Giuseppe’s as an acoustic duo. What a treat this will be! Call us 978-879-4622 for a table!

Hello! My name is Kai, a seven-month-old Retriever/mix.
I have a very special assignment. I have been asked to extend
a warm invitation to all our friends to an Open House
at our new shelter! Please join us for a tour of the
Christopher Cutler Rich Animal Shelter on Sunday, May 27
from 12 Noon – 4 p.m. at Four Paws Lane, Gloucester.
Here are the directions in case you need them:
From Route 128 North, take Exit 14 to Route 133 East/Essex Avenue.
At the stop sign, turn right onto Essex Avenue and take the first left at
the Paul Bergmann Memorial Island. Turn left onto Paws Lane,
at Beech Brook Cemetery.
This is so exciting and we are so pleased and grateful to
our many friends who have made the dream of a new
shelter possible. Remember to tell everyone you heard about
the Open House from Kai!
Epes Davis Shipyard.
The shipyard is on the Annisquam side, to the right of the bridge.
Joey,
The four basketball backboards at Burnham’s Field got a fresh coat of paint over the weekend.
It’s part of a great volunteer effort that created a Community Garden in Burnham’s Field last summer, has organized several field clean-ups and is making Burnham’s Field cleaner, safer and more family-friendly. Thanks to Ben’s Paint on Railroad Ave. in Gloucester for generously donating paint and brushes for the paint project. Check out Ben’s here<http://www.benspaint.benmoorepaints.com/home/home/sb.cn>.
Burnham’s Field is the largest green space in central Gloucester. It’s used a ton by youth sports teams and kids from downtown Gloucester – including many who don’t have yards of their own.
On Saturday, a man who’s lived near Burnham’s Field for 50 years and walks his dog there every day spotted the newly painted backboards and said he’s noticed that kids who play there seem to be taking better care of Burnham’s Field than they used to. Looks like the effort to improve the field is catching on!

Hello Rocky Neck friends & neighbors!
A quick report: The Rocky Neck Art Colony has received grant awards from two foundations in support of The Cultural Center at Rocky Neck: The Essex County Community Foundation has awarded $2000. toward building our financial capacity, and the Bruce J. Anderson Foundation, through the Boston Foundation, has awarded $10,000 toward The Center’s initial operating costs. We are extremely grateful to these grantors, as their support will help us to build a solid foundation for this project and leverage financial support from other sectors in the months ahead!
On another front, an energized "Center Management Team" (Pat Conant, Vicki Diez-Canseco, Suzanne Audette, Tom Nihan and yours truly) have begun to schedule events at The Center and recruit volunteers to cover Welcome Center hours (Saturday & Sunday, 11-1 and 5-7) beginning this coming weekend. Come by for a visit or to sign on as a volunteer as we get underway…
Hope to see you soon!
Karen

But if you have ever experienced the fun we’ve thrown down at every one of these events then I want you to come on out and party with us.
We will be playing Kim Smith and Craig Kimberley’s Bikini Speedo Dodgeball Movies on the big screen and then things heat up even more with a test of wills to see who can take the heat!
