See “Rock Stars of Gloucester” tonight ~ in the flesh and oil

Allen Estes ~ oil on canvas by Laureen Maher

Just in case you’ve been under a rock for the past couple of weeks and don’t know that Gloucester’s biggest block party ever starts at 6 tonight, you can click here to read some posts about it.  Okay, now you know.

Celebrating Gloucester’s extraordinary music scene has become a Block Party tradition — and we do it by putting musicians and dancers on the street, right in front of our celebrated shops and restaurants.  (see schedule here)

Fly Amero ~ oil on canvas by Laureen Maher

In this spirit, Laureen Maher will be putting her series of oils on canvas, entitled “Rock Stars of Gloucester” on display at Fred Bodin’s Historic Photo Gallery at 82 Main Street, right next to the Sargent Stage (see map here) where one of the rock stars in her collection, Allen Estes, will be performing with his son Dylan.

Other Rock Stars of Gloucester on display tonight (in oil) will be JB Amero, Dave Sag, Inge Berge, Willie Alexander featured with Greg Tower and Ed Savage, Rik Razdan featured with Lisa Marie — and Fly Amero (who may appear in the flesh with his sister, Linda, at the Franklin Stage).

So dine, dance and shop under the stars tonight in Gloucester.  You’ll have more fun than you think you deserve.

Magnolia to play The Harbor Loop Concert this coming Thursday 7-26-2012

Magnolia (now a 7 piece band) will be playing from 7-8 next Thursday?  We’ve evolved into a pop / alternative kind of sound, with roots stemming from a traditional folk/alt-country infused Americana sound.  It promises to be a great show, and will be our first show this year with our new lineup (new bass player and drummer).

Hi Joey:  Reading some  of the interesting comments this morning  We are all so proud and happy for Harold Burnham and his now famous Pinky Schooner Ardelle.  I took this photo of her before she left for her berth in Gloucester.  His recognition and award were well deserved.

Much to be grateful for today, Joey! A glorious day on Cape Ann with cooler weather capped by a gorgeous sunset from my meditation rock. May you enjoy a meditative moment reflecting upon this photo! Even moments of meditation can make a positive difference in our health and attitude. ;- ) I imagine you have many of those moments while out on the water with beautiful reflective sunrises, sunsets and moonrises on Cape Ann. Enjoy each day!   Peace,  Karen Pischke  www.dreamtimewellness.com.

I’m finally getting to my photos from the Firemen’s Parade in Rockport… This one was processed with CameraBag2. The effects are sort of like Instagram on steroids for desktop operating systems (without built-in social media functions).

After the Block Party winds down, many Gloucester venues will continue music into the wee hours, so there’s no reason to go home when the music on the street ends.  One of my favorite bands (KBMG Electric) will be heating things up at Minglewood Tavern.

Hey Joey,

My son Lars, who now lives in Norway, was here for two weeks of wonderfull sailing aboard the Schooner Sugarbabe.  We had a blast for the time he was here.  He even got to meet up with one of his teachers, Greg Swenson and a few classmates.  Here he is at the wheel of the Schooner Sugarbabe representing Good Morning Gloucester.

Kayaking in Magnolia Harbor

Since Rick and I got our Kayaks we are having a great time and it is great exercise.  We were out on the harbor and I took my small camera and was able to get this picture.

A dozen venues with Live Music Tonight ~ and 2 of them are floating!

Being a waterfront community, you’d expect Cape Ann to have plenty of restaurants, pubs & live music venues on the water — and we do.  Tonight we also have two that are IN the water — literally.  The Schooner Thomas E. Lannon is hosting a bluegrass sunset sail at 6pm featuring local legend Allen Estes with Gloucester’s best bluegrass musicians and Gloucester’s newest schooner, Ardelle, built by Howard Burnham (who build the Lannon) is hosting a sail at the same time with doo-wop/oldies girl group Honky Tonk Women of Glocuester.

Now, there are plenty of choices for those of you who wish to remain on land, from jazz standards, reggae, rock, funk, soul, motown — you name it.  See the full live music lineup here.
