Gloucester’s Kingsley Flood, Rhumbline, Saturday, June 4th.

Kingsley Flood describe themselves as an Americana band that “draws as much from Woody Guthrie and the Band as it does Joe Strummer and the Replacements.”

Kingsley Flood’s latest recording titled “I Don’t Wanna Go Home” was recently featured on NPR’s  “Song of the Day” , and the K-Flood does indeed rock.  They have a devoted allegiance of fans in Gloucester who pack the Rhumb Line everytime. The band’s lead guitarist, George Hall, has lived in Gloucester for 10 years, after many years of rocking Boston in former bands Dogzilla and Seks Bomba.  Kingsley Flood will be playing at the Rhumb Line Saturday, June 4th, three sets. It’s a great experience to see them close up, the tiny room explodes with rocking wild abandon. Great new track…but also worth checking out the first album Dust Windows, for which Kingsley Flood won “Best New Artist of the Year” at the 2010 Boston Music Awards. They also have many videos posted on YouTube including a killer version of another new song, “Mannequin Man” as performed live at TT the Bear’s in Cambridge.

International Dory Races June Events This Saturday The Eliminations At Niles Beach

image

Saturday, 8:30 a.m., Niles Beach – The Elimination Races will be held to determine who will represent the US vs. Canada on June 18th.

If you’ve been watching the GMG coverage of the International Dory Races and the building of the dories at Geno Mondello’s shop or if you want to share part in a great Gloucester tradition-

Head on down to Niles beach Saturday morning for the elimination races.

It’s a great thing to take the family to and you can register to become part of the action, you can buy t shirts, get row hard or row home bumper stickers.

Here’s the scenario- you pack the kids in the car, go to Last Stop Variety, grab a cup of coffee and one of their incredible muffins (blueberry and morning glory are awesome) and then go to Niles to catch the action.

Edible Plants In Rockport With Adam Bolonsky and Herbalist Shannon Kaye

Adam Bolonsky writes-

Herbalist Shannon Kaye takes Adam Bolonsky on a wild edible plants tour of the cattail swamp inland of Rockport’s secluded Loblolly Cove. The swamp and  cattails extend inland through conservation lands to the well-known freshwater wild swan nursery directly behind Pebble Beach.

And guess what? Cattails contain corm. If you’re cooking and eating in the wild, you can use corm to make….pancakes!

Joey writes- I ain’t eatin’ no goddamn cattails.
