I caught the Brand New Pinky Schooner Ardelle in the Annisquam River this morning. I’m guessing it was headed back to where She was Born to stay out of the way of the impending Storm.

The Great New England Hurricane, Boston, 1938
The Great New England Hurricane of September 1938 killed 600 to 800 people, damaged or destroyed 57,000 homes, took out 26,000 automobiles, and felled 2 billion trees. It was the first major hurricane to hit New England since 1869. In New York City, the East River surged three blocks inland. This photo was taken on Boston Common where the Ducklings sculpture is now.

Hurricane Irene Claims it’s first Victim
Looks like Hurricane Irene took an extreme turn to the West last night while we we’re all sleeping. Glenn (aka Swimdad) in California, did’nt heed the warnings and left his boat in the water. Hopefully he can repair it in time For the upcoming Mayor’s Race at the Schooner Fest this year.

Pick Those Tomatoes Before The Storm and Make Sista Felicia’s Sun Dried Tomato Recipe
There are tons of tomatoes ripe on the vine what will undoubtedly fall off when the storm hits. So if you had an event planned for today which was cancelled or if you’re looking for something to do, go pick some tomatoes and make some delish Sun-Dried Tomatas!

This time of year I find myself daydreaming of my childhood! I remember Sunday mornings, while the grownups in our family had coffee and Italian pastry with my grandparents, my brother, cousins and I would play outside in my grandparents’’ yard. Every summer while playing I watch my grandparents’ garden grow. I always knew that school days were approaching, when their tomatoes were ready for picking! Tomato time at my grandparents’ house was a family affair! Canning tomatoes for the winter was a ritual.
Ingredients:
2 pints of vine ripe small tomatoes (use a verity of small tomatoes)
Kosher salt
Fresh ground pepper
Olive oil
Step 1: Rinse and dry tomatoes
Step 2: Cut tomatoes in half
Step 3: place cut tomatoes in a medium bowl 
Step 4: Season tomatoes with 2 teaspoon of Kosher salt
Step 5: Drizzle Olive oil over tomatoes
Step 6 : Gently toss to evenly coat tomatoes with oil
Step 7: Pour tomatoes onto a cookie sheet fit with a cookie rack
Step 8: Using your hands turn each tomato on rack with cut side facing up and season with 1 Tablespoon of Kosher salt
Step 9: Dust tomatoes with freshly ground pepper
Step 10: Place tomatoes in preheated in 200 degree oven for 3-4 hours until tomatoes are dehydrated
Step 11: Pour a ¼ cup of olive oil into each mason jar.
Step 12: Place 1 garlic clove in each jar.
Step 13: Layer sun-dried tomatoes and garlic ¾ of the way to the top of the jar and top with olive oil.
Step 14: Place a lid and ring onto each mason jar and store in refrigerator until ready to use.

I know you are a big fan of the Boston Derby Dames. One of the skaters, Claire D. Way, a local girl from Ipswich,
made Team USA. Team USA will be skating at the World Cup to be held in Toronto Canada – Dec. 1 thru 4, 2011.
Claire D. Way is the only skater from New England to be chosen for the team. There will be 13 countries participating

Thanks for visiting our blog and new website. It’s summer here in the city, and it’s always an interesting juxtaposition in terms of time … while we all live with the hustle and bustle of the city, we are also chasing the best that summer has to offer while the fair weather stays. It’s easy enough to do in our destination. I love the breeze that blows through my new offices rolling right over the top of the Cruiseport Boston, while sneaking peaks of the masts from visiting Tall Ships or the vessels in Extreme Sailing. I imagine all the folks headed out on the seas and the ferries to / from the Boston Harbor Islands or maybe the amazing whale watching. Streets and sidewalks are busting with al fresco style dining and foot traffic, from one of my favorite secrets – North 26 overlooking Fanueil Hall Marketplace, the terrace of Mamma Maria’s in the North End and the hot new dockside deck and patio at Jerry Remy’s in the Seaport.
Yet, on Thursday nights, my head has already turned north to Cape Ann, where I grew up and now live with my husband, 3 kids, 2 dogs, and 2 cats. Residing nearby the Back Shore of Gloucester, where the coastline meets the expansive never ending Atlantic views, we spend our days lulling by the sea, at the beach, on a boat, biking, or walking. Just a few weekends back, I was excited to find out my friend Bea Flammia has recently come to Gloucester and experienced the new water shuttle, as well as the re-emerging Arts and Cultural District, and that she brought this back to her hotel concierge at the Fairmont Battery Wharf … got me thinking about all my own homeport has to offer that I take for granted and need to do a better job sharing.
That’s the next step at NXTevent. Communicate to our friends and relationships all that Boston and New England have to offer. The sneak peaks behind the scenes that we take for granted, whether its the growing organic farming communities and markets to exploring Chinatown’s cuisines, to a fresh new concept in evening events and dine arounds – exploring our coastline restaurants by water instead of foot. Tell you our story, as it occurs, and let you share your story with us.

Last June, I traveled to Moorea, a volcanic island in the middle of the South Pacific and part of Tahiti. Moorea can truly be called "Paradise on Earth". A place I had only read about was suddenly the place I stood, paints in hand. I often had the feeling there of being in a dream. I couldn’t help but think of Fletcher Christian and the Bounty or wonder where Gauguin and Matisse might have walked… My greatest challenge was seeing through its picture-postcard beauty. It is a real place, after all. On Tahiti I was drawn by the swiftly changing clouds, lush vegetation, and the colors of the ocean- the same elements I love about my home in Gloucester, Mass., on the Atlantic. As far apart as they are, each place has helped me see the other- more often contrasting though at times reminiscent.

Conrad Armstrong is an American artist who currently lives and works in Prague, Czech Republic, where he splits his time between teaching English, making art, and exhibiting. One of Conrad’s primary interests is the intersection between landscape and memory in human culture and history. Over the last decade, Conrad’s work has dealt with this theme in various media and from different perspectives. Landscape paintings made from memory, topographic paper sculpture, mnemonically-encoded images, landscape installation, and drawing and painting in situ are all manifestations of this interest. In addition to this theme, Conrad has also produced other bodies of work and exhibitions on other subjects including fetish objects, the role of social networks in contemporary life, the relationship between cars and alternative modes of transportation, and the potential of the classroom as a creative space. Underlying all of Conrad’s work is a sense of curiosity, playfulness, and whimsy that results in a compelling and often funny experience for the viewer. Though he is quite familiar with the North Shore, Conrad is delighted to have the opportunity to deepen his relationship with the area while developing his work at Rocky Neck in September 2011.

Mad Hungry Lucinda Scala Quinn’s “Winner Winner Chicken Dinner” As Prepared By The Mrs
My wife was absolutely beside herself when I told her that Lucinda stopped by the dock to pick up some lobsters the other day.
The reason she was so upset was because she religiously DVR’s Lucinda’s show Mad Hungry and one of my favorite dishes that the Mrs has been making for a couple of months now came from the show- “Winner Winner Chicken Dinner”
The Mrs is a huge fan of Lucinda and the show mostly due to the simple recipes that all pack great taste.
Me personally? I’ve never had a love affair with beans but the beans in this dish I could eat for days they are so packed with flavor.

GLOUCESTER (CBS) – Hurricane Irene could cause major damage to homes and the economy in Gloucester.
Gloucester residents still talk about The Perfect Storm back in the 90′s, but no one is quite sure what Irene is going to bring.
People in the fishing industry and those who live along the water are preparing for the absolute worst.
“It’s certainly going to get rough, and that could impact the whole lobster industry, the gill netters, everyone. It’s not good for us at all,” said Tom Ring
