ULYSSES

Tho’ much is taken, much abides; and tho’
We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are;
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.

Jane Southworth Has Some Nice Things To Say

Hey Joey,

I love your web/blog which an old friend introduced me to.  I grew up in Magnolia (was there last weekend) and live in the Boothbay Harbor Region.  I keep seeing stuff that’s relative to this area.  Last week RESA was here, I watched her maneuvering out of a tight space in the harbor managing to back up, turn around and not smack into the lobster boats, kyakers, floats full of gear, sailboats, and 3 ferry boats….all maneuvering out at the same time!  I saved the pictures of BLUE GUITAR which has been coming here for years.  Just wanted to say “thanks” for making my morning (strong black coffee) so much more enjoyable.  Keep up the great job, it’s so nostalgic for so many of us who love the area.

Rubber Duck had way too much fun at last Thursday’s NOTN on Rocky Neck and needed a little hair of the dog that bit her the next day.

Sassy Ecobags by Susan 0’Leary

Sassy Ecobags by Susan 0’Leary

From Susan O’Leary

Sassy Eco Bags are uniquely designed handbags, purses and totes.  Each bag has been handcrafted from discarded coffee or tea bags from area coffee houses.  By rescuing these materials and reusing them, they are kept away from dumps and landfills.  The materials used in each bag are durable as well as attractively functional.  I hope you enjoy the bag.

Feel free to feel good about helping the Earth and looking Sassy at the same time.
Sassy Eco Bags came about from the idea that if we can lighten our Carbon Footprint and lessen the amount of trash we throw into dump sites, we can help the Earth.  If any of the trash we produce can be utilized for fashion, function and fun, then let’s go for it!

Bags are available in a variety of sizes, styles, colors and schemes.  Please contact me by email or phone if you are interested in placing an order or if you would like more information about Sassy Eco Bags.

Best,
Susan

Magnolia Beach from the Island

#4 Grandkid, Kylie, convinced me to cross the weekend boat traffic in our sit-on kayaks yesterday morning. It’s always cool when you get out to the island. What a gorgeous day!

Frank Zappa Quote of The Week From Greg Bover

“Without deviation from the norm, progress is not possible.”
Frank Zappa (1940-1993)

image

A native of Baltimore whose father worked for the military, Zappa recorded more than 60 albums as a soloist and as the founder and leader of The Mothers of Invention. Often miscast as a novelty musician, he wrote complex, difficult to perform classical, jazz, rock, fusion and other music that can not be contained in any genre. His iconoclastic approach to life often put him at odds with the established order and organized religion, but he was an ardent supporter of free speech and auto-didacticism. Cited as an influence by such diverse musicians as Pierre Boulez, Paul McCartney and George Clinton, Zappa was a multiple Grammy Award winner and was invited to the newly independent Czechoslovakia by Vaclav Havel to advise on cultural matters.

At the time of his death it was rumored he was contemplating a move to Montana to raise dental floss.
