One Hour At A Time Gang Notice From Donna Ardizzoni

Good Morning all:

Hope all is well on this beautiful day.

Saturday:             April 17, 2010

Meet:                   St. Peters’ Square

Time:                     8:00 am

I think we should again do the streets but also if we can get a lot of people we could also do the blvd.  I will get the bags and brooms, dustpans, and someone mentioned if anyone had trash barrels on wheels would also help.

Thanks all and enjoy your day

 Donna

Odds and Ends: Rudder, Taxes, Mac

April 15, this Thursday, The Rudder opens for the season. I’ve been Jonesin’ for some pan seared monkfish with lemon butter and capers since last fall. Tax Relief Specials. Spring Hours: Open Thursdays to Saturday 5PM.

April 15, this Thursday, is not tax day if you live in Essex county. That rain in March made us a “disaster recovery zone” so taxes are not due until May 11. Woot, off to the Rudder even if the IRS is getting a big check. Mañana.

What if you get a tax refund and you’re thinking maybe you should get something slick to load GMG onto. Don’t you want to see Homie’s tail feathers in glossy high resolution with a high refresh rate? (Really, it wiggles.) Since some people know me as a Mac fanboy I always get the question, “What Mac should I buy?” and my answer is always the same. Go to MacRumors Buyer’s Guide and find out when the new model is coming out. This page will tell you whether to buy now or wait. Say you wanted a MacBook Pro last week. Boy would you have buyer’s remorse if you had not gone to the page. They would have told you “New Models Soon DO NOT BUY!!”

New models for the MacBook Pro came out today. The 13 inch is nice.

Things To Do! Earth Day Kids Clean Up and Concert!

The Berry Green Earth Day Kids Clean Up and Free Concert In Gloucester!

In recognition of the 40th anniversary of Earth Day, Chelsea Berry – singer/songwriter and ardent environmentalist – is coordinating a kid’s clean up and free concert on Sunday, April 25.

Interested children and their families (all ages welcome!) should plan to meet on the front lawn of the Unitarian Universalist Church at the corner of Middle and Church Streets in Gloucester between 12:30 and 1:00 to pick up gloves and (empty) trash and recycling bags.  The clean up will take place from 1 to 3 – rain or shine.  In the event of rain, bag and glove distribution will take place in the lower level of the church.  The clean up is city-wide and participants are encouraged to clean up a public area in Gloucester of their choosing– it could be their school grounds, favorite playing field, park or beach.  (We will also have a list of suggested sites on hand, if folks need ideas).  Any young children unaccompanied by a guardian will work with one of our trash / recycling coordinators and pick up trash within walking distance to the church.

Participants will then meet back at the Church @ 3:30 (with their collected trash/ recycling) for the free concert (which will start at 4).   Refreshments will be served, but in keeping with Chelsea’s commitment to preserving the environment, her concert will be a ZERO WASTE event – that is no trash will be generated at this event.  Food and paper waste will be composted and any beverage containers will be recycled.

Who is Chelsea Berry?  Chelsea is a very gifted and talented singer-songwriter.  Originally from Alaska, Chelsea has made Cape Ann her new home.  Increasingly a regular on the Gloucester music scene, Chelsea also gives singing, guitar and piano lessons to many of the next generation of Cape Ann musicians.  Given her love of the outdoors and concern for the environment, she came up with the idea to combine her 2 passions to celebrate Earth Day and to do it in concert with Cape Ann Kids – instilling in them (the future stewards of the earth) the importance of preserving our environment.  According to Rose LoPiccolo, Gloucester Recycling Coordinator, Chelsea is using her gifts to give back to Gloucester!

For questions about the event, email:  berrygreen2010@gmail.com

Thanks to the Unitarian Universalist Church for providing the venue, to the City of Gloucester for providing the trash bags and trash collection, Common Crow for providing refreshments and to the MassDEP for their help in coordination of the event.

*Trash picker-uppers get into the concert for free!  Suggested donation for all others:  $10

Hey Joey,

Billy Costa is featuring Manchester-by-the-Sea this Saturday.  TV Diner will be on NECN at 10:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. this Saturday, April 17th.  They’re profiling the Landing at 7 Central, Calla, Essen and Captain Dusty’s.  I’m sure a lot of area residents would love to see the show.

I took the liberty of adding the fog to this scene in Rockport’s little inner harbor. It makes for a more atmospheric picture.
