Cape Ann Symphony plant sale planned for May 16

The Cape Ann Symphony’s Spring Plant Sale is set for Saturday, May 16 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Fuller School, Blackburn Circle, Route 128, Gloucester.

During the sale, special guests will share their gardening expertise and give tips on beautifying your garden with free lectures and demonstrations. Flower photographs and photo note cards by Sharon Lowe and Lynne Khambaty will also be on sale. All proceeds from the sale will benefit the Cape Ann Symphony.

A wide variety of plants in many sizes will be available including geraniums, hydrangeas, mandevilla, impatiens, dahlias and alyssum in large pots, small pots and in hanging baskets as well as tomatoes, basil and parsley for a vegetable and herb garden. All are locally grown.

At 10 a.m., John Feener, Gloucester’s Tree Warden, will give a talk and demonstration in the Fuller Auditorium lobby about “How to Prune Your Shrubs.” At 11 a.m., Marthe Aimee will talk on “The Language of Color in Your Garden.”

The judges have spoken but now it is time to hear from the people! Watch the 2009 International Documentary Challenge finalists and vote for your favorite films to determine the Audience Award Winner. The top rated film will be featured on the front page of the Doc Challenge website, receive a free registration in the 2010 Doc Challenge and will be automatically included in the next “Best of the Doc Challenge” DVD.

Rating of the documentaries starts May 6 at 22:00 Central as the Hot Docs screening of the International Documentary Challenge screening wraps up in Toronto. Ratings close on June 15 at midnight.

The staging has been taken down to reveal this cinderblock wall.  That exposed brick behind there will be memorialized only in these photos.

The masons made quick work of this cinderblock wall whih covered up the old uneven brick one that was behind there just a few days ago.
