Video- Sista Felicia’s Gorgonzola Pasta Dish On The GDT Website Today

Gorgonzola is key in this pasta dish

By Times Staff

Gorgonzola is a favorite cheese to cook with or serve in many Italian homes. It is popular in risotto and on polenta but perhaps nothing is as popular as making this cream sauce and serving over pasta. This is one of Felicia Ciaramitaro Mohan’s favorite family recipes. Like many, she prefers serving over a short tubular pasta such as penne instead of something like spaghetti or linguine.

Gorgonzola is a blue cheese that originated in Italy sometime around 800 AD, having been originally made by hanging the cheese moulds in large caves to ripen. Today the cheese is manufactured by injecting the moulds right into the cheese as it begins to age. Traditionally, Gorgonzola is made with raw cow’s milk, although pasteurized and sheep’s milk versions of the cheese are also available. The greenish blue penicillin mould in the cheese imparts a very distinctive sharp and spicy smell that contrasts with the creamy white cheese surrounding it.

Sundown, Moonrise, and Sunup Eastern Point Gloucester Video From Kim Smith

Kim writes-

Looking for butterflies on Eastern Point and videotaping the sun setting as the moon was rising. I passed Niles Pond on the drive home and stopped to admire the moonglow over the water. The following dawn brought flaming red skies, a cygnet plaintively searching for its family, and a startlingly large (at least 2 feet in height) Black-crowned Night Heron. Quawking loudly as the sun began to rise, there was a half dozen more roosting in a nearby tree.

Video- Seven Seas Navigator Depature Timelapse From Bill O’Connor

Hi Joey,

I took this time lapse of the Seven Seas Navigator leaving port just after dusk, and thought it might be fun enough to share!  I forgot to lock the auto focus, which is why it gets blurry at the end.

Enjoy! ~Bill O’Connor

Video Interview- Local Banking Part I A Conversation With Bob Gillis

People like to speak about shoping locally.  Often times they are talking about retail shopping or buying local fish, lobsters, produce and sourcing food as close to home as possible.

What often gets overlooked are our local banks who have in the past and are currently, extremely involved in our community.  Not only do they provide local jobs but more often than not they keep the money that you save as deposits here and turn around and lend that money back into the community.  They also back many local charities and treat you as a person and not just an account number.  It’s nice to have someone recognize you when you walk through the doors.

I don’t always advocate to do business locally.  I’ll be the first to admit that if there is an item out of town where there is a huge discrepancy in price I will shop out of town.  However when things are close to even slightly higher priced the benefits of keeping it local go way beyond what you put in your pocket.  There is a ripple effect where the entire community benefits.

We highlight the benefits of local banking in light of the fee based banking structure of large national banks.  Here is part I with Bob Gillis Of Cape Ann Savings Bank.

When you get your Bank of America statement this month and decide that you’ve finally had enough, check out what our local banks, Cape Ann Savings Bank, Bank Gloucester and Rockport National have to offer.   I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised.

…and don’t forget to tell ’em Joey sent ya.

Look for my interview with Patrick Thorpe From Bank Gloucester tomorrow.

Official Statement From Mayor Kirk Regarding Rebuilding The Greasy Pole

I reached out to Mayor Kirk this morning for a statement about the greasy pole.
Here is her response.

The Greasy Pole will be rebuilt. I have already met with members of the Fiesta Committee this morning and assured them the city will be their partner. It will take a community effort though. We need the Fiesta Committee, the Waterways Board and the city to all step up to the financial challenge. The Greasy Pole represents a tradition and culture that we cherish in Gloucester, and we won’t let it vanish.

Regards, Carolyn Kirk Mayor
