“Gloucester, Cape Ann and Essex County are excited to participate in Sail Boston 2017~~~ the largest tall ships event in Boston in decades! Look for The Essex County Maritime Heritage Tent behind the Moakley Court House. Our exhibit display is open to the public: Sat., June 17- Mon., June 19 from 9AM-6PM each day.
Exhibiting Partners include: Essex Shipbuilding Museum, Schooner Adventure, Schooner Ardelle, Discover Gloucester, Cape Ann Chamber, Schooner Ernestina-Morrissey, Maritime Gloucester and National Maritime Heritage Society.
The cooperative exhibit will include educational activities and interactive exhibits designed to engage visitors in the rich maritime heritage of Essex County. The exhibit is behind the Moakley Courthouse, dockside to many of the Essex Built vessels participating in Sail Boston 2017. Join us as we celebrate Essex county’s maritime past, showcase the current work being done to preserve maritime traditions in the present while continuing to inspire and educate students –keeping these vibrant traditions alive and well into the future.”

For the first time since 2000, the Tall Ships are visiting Boston! On the evening of June 16th the ships will be at anchor just outside Boston harbor awaiting the “Grand Parade of Sail” the next morning. This is your oppotunity to view these beautiful ships as they were meant to be: At sea! With any luck, you will also get to enjoy viewing the ships as they are illuminated by the brilliant colors of sunset which, thanks to the time of the year, isn’t until 8:23PM.This is a rare opportunity to peacefully view the Tall Ships away from the crowds and traffic jams of the city. It looks like their first Victim was a cooler full of Grog in the Cruiseport Parking lot.

The Urania is off to SailBoston. The ship is part of the Dutch Navy. She has a main crew of a couple men and then a rotating crew that hops aboard in each port from the ranks of the Dutch Navy. From what I understand it is a honor to be able to get the chance to serve.

SailGloucester Update From Linn Parisi
Hi Joey,
We were going out on the Lannon again this afternoon to see ships underway towards Boston– but the ships decided to stay in port another day.
Just got a heads up from Kay w/ the Lannon that the Picton Castle may leave Gloucester under sail tomorrow morning between 6:30 and 7A.
The Europa sneaked in to the state pier after the Tecla came in last night.
One ship just left the harbor to go to Boston- not sure which, but we’re going down to check it out.
It’s all good!
