Evening light makes everything beautiful

A fire escape on Center Street.  I stood there for a minute or two getting a few different shots, and as I walked away, a woman asked me what I was photographing.  I showed her the photos, and she agreed it was a nice subject… then said she was asking because it is her building! I bet she was worried that I might have some bad intent, maybe scoping the place out for a break-in or something.  Not to worry!

Unitarian Universalist Church seen from Main Street

This church adds so much to the view in Gloucester, from so many different angles and perspectives, I can’t get enough photos of it…

Impressions of Ravenswood Park

The other day, a friend took me to Ravenswood Park for the first time.  Good thing I wasn’t alone, or I would probably have either gotten lost or missed out on some of the beautiful spots in the park! This is a great place to go for a walk. Just bring lots of bug repellant…

Raindrops on roses

Some of our neighbors have roses right next to the sidewalk, and I took this photo with my iPhone the other day when it was raining. The two little round drops perched on top of the uppermost petal look like Muppet eyes to me… and the way it curls over is like a mouth.  As if the rose were a character from Jim Henson’s imagination…

American Legion building at night

I really like the colors in this shot. No retouching at all.

Ten Pound Island in the mist

I walked around the Fort on a misty, cloudy day.  It was not conventionally beautiful weather, but it had a lot of ambience, which I tried to capture somewhat in this photo.

Super Moon over Thatcher Island

I’m glad I didn’t give up when I saw this upon arrival…

Granite from over the bridge

The rocks and water in these photos remind me of the rocks on the coast of Gloucester, although they are actually in northeastern Connecticut, in the town of Putnam, just a few minutes from my hometown.  The geology is probably very similar.

Colorful Rockport

I snapped this shot last summer. Soon we’ll be back to this kind of warm, sunny weather!

Graffiti on one of the Babson boulders

Someone thought they had the right to editorialize on the boulder…

City Hall in the snow

Young Artist of the week!

This young artist of the week is a very talented 14-year-old photographer  named Sarah. Sarah does digital and darkroom photography, and did a great series of graffiti photography last fall for the TAG gallery opening [one pictured below]. Above are some of her photos on display at Nights on the Neck last summer, but you can see more of her work at the TAG gallery at 180B Main St.

If you know of a young artist that should be featured here, email dawn.gadow@gmail.com  with a short description and a photo of some of their work!
