Brute force string recovery @ Alchemy

Chelsea Berry broke two strings last night at Alchemy.  That’s unusual for her — she must have been excited by the packed house.

In this video, her good friend Megan Burtt’s brute force helps Chelsea recover and continue the song.

Also notice how they tease Andrew & Clayton.  A splendid time was had by all!

Lots to do tonight: folk, rock, blues, DJ Dancing and open mic.  See full lineup here.

“You think that it is a safe place to hide – But I’ve already been there”

Lyrics like that are why this song will be a HIT.  Then there’s the haunting melody, full of gorgeous melismas, sung perfectly by rising star Megan Burtt, who’s visiting her friend Chelsea Berry in Gloucester this week.

You can see the two of them at Alchemy tonight at 7pm.  Might be your last chance to catch this Denver native for a while, unless you want to follow her on tour — see dates here.

If you can’t get in to Alchemy, there’s other great music in town (see full lineup here).  And you late-nighters can see Dennis Monagle hosting The Dejas starting at 9pm at Minglewood.

Oh yeah, she can ROCK too!

Yesterday we introduced you to Megan Burt, the gimmesound Artist of the Week, and featured a video of her solo delta blues hit — and the story behind it (click here if you missed it).  Today, you get to see her ROCK.  Check out the video above.

Tomorrow you can see her live at Alchemy with her good friend and Gloucester singer/songwriter Chelsea Berry.

It’s Tuesday in Gloucester.  That means KBMG or Henley Douglas Jr.  Details here.

Rising star shines on Gloucester this week

Chelsea Berry introduced us to her good friend and fellow singer/songwriter, Megan Burtt at a house concert last night.  The fact that Chelsea has excellent taste in friends and musicians is proven by Megan.  She and Chelsea rocked the crowd.  We captured much of the concert on video.  Here’s one song and a captivating story.  Watch it and see why we chose this rising star as gimmesound’s Artist of the Week.

You can see Megan live at Alchemy on Wednesday (Chelsea will sit in too).  You may want to call ahead for reservations 978-281-3997.  The word is spreading fast that Megan and Chelsea are not to be missed!

First performance ever of Allen Estes’ new song

Allen Estes sings his brand new song Be Safe My Son for the first time on his show Local Music Seen, which will air in April.  Here’s a preview.  He literally finished the song last week, so this is the very first time it’s been heard by anyone outside the studio (except his son, Dylan, of course).

Lots of music today starting at noon.  Our friend, Inge Berge, comes out of hibernation tonight at 8pm to appear at Giusseppe’s!

See full lineup here.

Meet Mr. Pumpkin

…if you haven’t already.

Mr. Pumpkin allowed me to interrupt his nap time for this photo. He is very friendly and relaxed (or at least he was when I visited).  He lives at Gloucester Music (210 Main St.), a store that sells CDs, LPs, instruments, sheet music, and other musical supplies and accessories.

Long Slow Tired Horse?

Click on the video to see what Marina is talking about as she reveals her inspiration for the music video made in her Florence Italy kitchen last May.

Rock, blues and two open mics this evening.  Check them all out here.

Performing Live or Recording ~ Which is better?

Watch the video and see Marina Evans talk about recording, live performing and touring.  Plus she compares Gloucester with Florence, Italy.

Six wonderful musical choices tonight on Cape Ann: chamber music, Chelsea, Loco, Fly, Toni, sing, indie/soul/funk — All FREE!  See the full lineup here.

gimmesound Artist of the Week Marina Evans

Her beautiful, sultry voice, distinctive sound and multi-genre style (folk, rock, jazz) have charmed most of us on Cape Ann.  Now she has a new website (see here), so we thought it would be fitting for her to be our gimmesound Artist of the Week.

Click on the video above and watch her sing one of her most popular songs, One of Two, on Local Music Seen with Allen Estes (see her entire show here).

It’s Monday, so get out and Jam with the Bandit Kings at Rhumb Line.

He Won!

You may remember that Brad Byrd, who was gimmesound’s Artist of the week at the end of January, was up for an award on Melodic.net.  Well he won Singer/Songwriter Album of the year, for his latest album Mental Photograph!

CONGRATULATIONS BRAD!

Click on the video  above to hear Brad sing Middle of the Road from that album.  In honor of Brad’s win, we edited some footage from last month into a fascinating interview (check it out here).

Then hurry out to catch bluegrass brunch at Alchemy, followed by jazz in the afternoon, folk in the evening and the Bandit Kings Gloucester sound at the Rhumbline.  It’s a musical Sunday in Gloucester!

Just in case you missed it …

gimmesound Artist of the week: Allen Estes was one of the stars of Celebrate Gloucester 2010 at I4-C2 — and he was joined on stage by Fly Amero in a surprise appearance (Fly originally couldn’t play Celebrate Gloucester due to a scheduling conflict) for one of Allen’s most popular songs, Not With Ya Hands about Gloucester legend Howard Blackburn.

Their inspiring performance was one of the highlights of the festival.  Click on the video and check it out!

Lots to choose from tonight swing, funk, jam band & good ol’ rock ‘n roll.  See full lineup here:

Did you know Allen Estes wrote a Top 40 Hit?

That’s right, folks.  It’s called Next to You and was Tammy Wynette’s last top 40 hit.  See her Next to You video here.

Watch the Local Music Seen video, above, and see Allen sing his version of the song.  Which do you like better?

Six excellent choices for music tonight with lots of dancing options.  See full lineup here.

Who does Peter love to forget to thank?

Our good friend and multi-talented sound man, recording engineer, guitarist, sax player, singer/songwriter Will Hunt.  Among many other things, Will does sound for Local Music Seen with Allen Estes, and on this week’s show, Peter and Allen  thank everybody else who works on this show EXCEPT for Will!  Peter almost forgot to thank me too 😉

Then, at the sold out Mardi Gras concert at Minglewood on Tuesday, Peter thanked everybody else EXCEPT Will, who gave us excellent sound.

Now, Joey C. remembered to thank Will at Celebrate Gloucester, so we were afraid Will might begin to think we don’t like him or something.

We want to make sure Will doesn’t get a complex, so we’re dedicating this entire post to say just one thing:

THANK YOU WILL!   WE LOVE YOU!

You’ll get to see Will on Local Music Seen with Allen Estes some time in the next couple of month — and that will be a real treat.  This time he’ll be performing, so somebody else will do sound.  We’ll forget to thank him too.  That’s just what happens with sound men . . .

Who’s Allen’s guest this week?

Allen is!  You asked for it, now you’ve got it.  Click on the video above and hear Allen tell us how he  finally decided to be featured on his own show, Local Music Seen.  Watch it tonight at 6:30 on Cape Ann TV Channel 12.

Then get your butt up off the couch and go see some other great music.  Lots to choose from (full lineup here).

Dennis Monagle has Quill at Minglewood.  Just in case you don’t know Qwill, check out this video:
