A very cool video of Lightning over Gloucester Harbor. Taken from Cripple Cove.
From David “Doc” Vincent
“Took this the other night..with my new camera..from my backyard..looking out over the harbour.”
From Deb Clarke;
I think this is Brenda Tredwell. She was my model and studio assistant for several years. This drawing is turpentine wash on acid free paper. Use blotter paper or absorbant cardboard as a palette, this will reduce the linseed oil. The reverse of this drawing has one small bleedthrough, with no sign of decomp. This drawing pleases me.This is what Happens when you give your Musician Partner a Camera for Christmas!

I deconstructed the entire sketchbook. i have been hindered by the construction of the sketchbook provided by the sketchbook project. it reminds me too much of school exercise book or a journal. it kept calling for words, and i kept trying to make it into something. anyway, this is the condition on october 9. today, i re-packaged the book.
trying to reconstruct the sketchbook. the book is getting lumpy. people with egg allergies can not handle this book…i’m using egg glair. the book had to stand during the drying process, then the sun turned the page into something else.
perhaps this is a Book of Shadow. the idea resonates with my inner life. i just don’t like the way this looks.
it’s a sketchbook. it should not be precious. it should be of use.
onward.

AHOY there! Here’s the weekly quickie on the Sketchbook Project.
The following images have yet to be added to the sketchbook…..and what is currently new & already adhered is drying….hooray for glue. So there are some images missing. I’ll get to them soon….
Recently, my sketches have ranged from the classic portraits…..
…..the to the classically influenced oddity……
…..to the straight up weird.
I don’t really know why I always draw things growing out of my character’s heads (???). I suppose I want to add a visual twist on what would otherwise be just another portrait.
The lower right, the pink lady surrounded by blue, is based on an image I saw on ffffound.com, which is an AMAZING site for visual inspiration, FYI. Originally, she was suppose to be depicted as a woman underwater, but with the way the dress is shaped, she looks like she is part of giant heart. This realization was actually pointed out by Josh. Naturally, I’m delighted by this….however, now I’m afraid that all I draw will start being a combination platter of portraiture and anatomical parts. Frankin-pictures. Perfect for Halloween I suppose? Sweet.

light art!
every once in a while my work catches me off guard with an inner certainty that i am on the right path. the sun hit this painting yesterday. that ‘light patch’ is flattened out in this image. the reality of the reflected light is that it existed in space, sort of like a hologram. damn, if i could paint like that, But, I don’t know how to. Yet.
Hi Joey,
Here’s a link to my post with a pic of a painting that i did as a demo for my students during a class last June. The painting is a Stuff.
maybe you could post the link to encourage folk to go down, look at it and maybe buy it for a good cause.
Thanks Joey!

Don’t worry Joey, GMG has nothing to worry about. Even though I will be posting some Great Stuff! This Blog will be following the progress of Six Artists participating in the “Sketchbook Project” all of us either live here in Gloucester or have Ties here. Deb Clarke can explain it better. Check it out below.
From Deb Clarke;
“Hello,
We are 6 intrepid sketchbookers with a common love of gloucester massachusetts that have decided to participate with 17,000+ other sketchbookers in “The Sketchbook Project”. This began with Elizabeth Bollenberg asking me (deb clarke, her mom) to get her a sketchbook so that she could participate in the project. I ordered a sketchbook for her and one for me. My goodmorninggloucester friend and student Paul Frontiero ordered one. Then my friend, co-worker, and goodmorninggloucester friend Sabine Ocker ordered one. Then my friend, now living in Palm Springs and goodmorninggloucester friend Helen Anne Lind ordered one.
my personal approach…i’m going to start posting regularly on it after i deliver eb’s sketchbook to her tomorrow. i have some fun ideas, and of course, since i am an artist and am used to stretching into unknown territory, i’m going to dive in, dive down deep, then re-surface. whatever i do, i trust it will be full of surprises, with unexpected consequences.
at least this is one art object that i won’t have to store and take care of after it leaves my hands.
We invite you to follow our progress towards the successful completion of our sketchbooks.
Anyone can participate, you don’t have to be an artist! If you would like to participate in the sketchbook project too, click the sketchbook project link. If you would like to share your sketchbook work for The Brooklyn Art Library’s traveling ‘Sketchbook Project”, we would be pleased to see your work and perhaps share your progress on our Blog; http://somethingsketchy.wordpress.com/ and here on GMG too.”
