This Guy Must Have Picked the Short Straw

Construction continues on the Rockport Breakwater and, after watching this guy do his work, you have to assume that he picked the short straw.

Yikes!  That is not a job I would want in January…or anytime really.

Great job, my friend!

If You Build It…Well, You Know the Rest.

There’s a lot of construction going on along Nugent Stretch from Gloucester along into Rockport these days.

This Guy!!

Meet my hero!  I love this guy!  If you need some work done on your house you’d be crazy to not call Matt Gardner.  Last year I saw a small platform deck on the sweetest little house in Nantucket and I took one distant photo from the end of the home owners’ long driveway.

With that photo and lots of babbling about what I love….and I what I really don’t like, Matt Gardner saw my vision (even when I wasn’t completely sure I could see it) and created what I consider a true work of art!  I am so smitten with our new deck I can’t even stand it!  Not only is he completely skilled, but he was patient, honest and reliable…which made working with him really wonderful.

Aiello Chimney Sweep and Repair rebuilds chimney at Holy Family

Last fall, we noticed that one of the chimneys on the office building of Holy Family Parish was tilting dangerously.  We called up Aiello Chimney Sweep and Repair, and they took the top part of the chimney down to keep it from falling in a winter storm.  Rebuilding had to wait until this summer.

It was interesting to watch Korey Avallon and his helpers tear down more of the chimney and build it back up to the original appearance. I took a series of photos to document the job.  At the end, it looks as if it had never been tilting or taken down at all! Here are some highlights.  A full series of 13 photos can be seen here.

McDonald’s in Gloucester being reborn!

Back at the end of April, I posted about the demolition of the McDonald’s on Maplewood Ave., in preparation for a complete rebuilding. This is the photo I posted at the time.

I took another photo at the end of May. The old building is completely gone, and the new one is coming up:

That was quick! I hope they are back up and in business soon.

And the build-out continues!

Just wanted to update everyone that we had a great day on Monday at Art Haven’s new space, finishing building out some walls, getting the art materials thrift store cleaned out, and Sal Russo coming through HUGE by finishing repointing the back wall of our function room!

Here’s the awesome crew from Chris Fogarty Carpentry who generously volunteered their time to put up most of the walls in the space:

And the RAYS kids helping to get the thrift store ready!

And even a couple of the TAG kids stopping by to check out the awesome new space they’ll get to use! (Can you tell their excited?)

Where did McDonalds go?

I think it was here on Maplewood Ave. the day before yesterday...

Someone told me that they are going to rebuild, because the building was old and needed a complete renovation. Kind of startling, though, to drive down the road and see this sight instead of the nice little Micky D’s that was there so recently! Anybody know for sure if/when they will reopen? When I will be able to get my yummy McDonald’s apple pies again?

Walls are going up at 11 Pleasant Street!

Pictures coming tomorrow, but if you’ve got some time and construction skills you can still come down and help until about 3:00 today!

Check out this video if you wanna know what’s going on…

Demolition happening now at Art Haven’s new space – carpets tomorrow!

Here’s a little video of some of the demolition started this morning at Art Haven’s new space at 11 Pleasant Street. They’re looking for some volunteers to come help rip up carpets tomorrow afternoon if anyone’s interested… Great way to get out some pent up aggression! Just call (978) 283-3888 or email su@orenblu.com for more details or just come down at 3:30 tomorrow afternoon!
