Serendipity’s Playhouse 88 Bass Avenue #GloucesterMA | Grand Opening Friday March 29, 2019 4:30PM

John and Phyllis Linquata announce their new business, Serendipity’s Playhouse, Cape Ann’s first indoor play space! Join them at 4:30PM on Friday, March 29, 2019 for the Grand Opening!
Serendipty’s Playhouse
88 Bass Avenue
Gloucester, Massachusetts
(978) 283-4335
After a year of renovations & permits and the challenges & kismet of converting a former tile store into a family- friendly destination, Serendipity Playhouse is open! The entryway tile design became a plus, matching the new vision at the site. This welcome playland features amusing attractions, an expansive wooden climbing structure, pint-sized imaginative activity stations, foam pit, ride on train, airplane see-saw, and a separate padded toddler space. Families can sign up for extra programs like Zoomba’s “Zoombini” package on Saturdays at 9AM.
The Linquatas sussed out an ideal location with plenty of parking and neighboring businesses that are a natural fit. Families and caregivers can refuel, meet up and juggle errands with a play break: Cape Ann Coffees is right next door; Charlie’s Place is across the street; Stop & Shop plaza is out back; and Good Harbor Beach is a walk away. The Linquatas are Gloucester residents and parents which is evident because 1)see their location intel and 2) the convenient hours…they open early enough for those families with wee early risers. The new venture is very much a family endeavor. John is running the day to day operations. Phyllis dreamed of opening an indoor wonderland and brings her professional expertise as a preschool teacher into building the business. Their daughter is helping out after school. They are determined to provide an active indoor play haven that’s super clean and engaging.

Fun Night at Stage Fort Visitor Center and yes that’s Joey’s photograph

Carol Thistle thanking Joey for the Discover Gloucester cover photo.
Stage Fort Visitor Center is officially open for the season. It was a full house last night.
Speaking of generosity: I recognized many of the returning volunteers who fill the shifts necessary to greet and assist all who walk through the door. Or around the gorgeous wrap around porch. The volunteers are a fun, dedicated group.
The opening always feels optimistic and festive. Local restaurants provided tasty signature appetizers and munchies. Laura Baker, proprietor of Castle Manor Inn, kept the table looking great all night.
Everyone takes a few moments to announce their business and any updates. Last night was no different, for instance: Vista Motel has a new, big pool; Cape Ann Marina will be making it easier for people to rent boats by matching clients with captains and vessels; the upcoming schooner race is not ‘competitive’, right?; the new concierge for Beauport Hotel put up his hand and a hello; and Sarah Oaks is fabulously readying the Maritime Gloucester shop.
I let people know that one HarborWalk marker may not be available for Hunt the HarborWalk tracing. It’s the marker at Norman’s Woe in Solomon Jacobs Park and public landing. The park should be open this weekend– and throughout the summer. Keep in mind it’s only a temporary look and opening. The park will close back up after the busy summer season. They may install that HarborWalk marker for the summer, too.

Boston Globe Caffeine Map Poll Omits Important Category- The Independents
In the Boston Globe’s Caffeine Poll in which they ask the question Dunkin Donuts or Starbucks they omit a hugely important category (well to me it is anyway)-THE INDEPENDENT COFFEE SHOPS!
Click the map for the Boston Globe Poll-
Personally I prefer Starbucks over Dunkin Donuts as I find DD to be weak and the people rarely make it the way I want it at DD and every once in a while I get one that tastes like burnt plastic. But over both of those choices I would take The Lone Gull, Cape Ann Coffee or Pleasant St Tea and Coffee Company.
To leave the independent coffee shop out of the options for the poll I feel the poll is hugely flawed.
What about you? I’ll add the right poll in here-

Cape Ann Coffee New Outdoor Cafe Seating Area
While stopping in for my sausage egg and cheese on croissant sandwich at Cape Ann Coffee, I noticed they are building a cool new outdoor seating area. It’s a great idea.
I wish our downtown restaurants put in those cool fold away windows on the front of their buildings so we could have al fresco semi outdoor dining like they do on Newbury Street and in South Boston.
