Boo-Bird in Manchester For Lunch
We decided to give Boo-Bird on Central St in Manchester a try for lunch a few days ago and we are very pleased to report that we enjoyed it very much! They had just opened for the day so it was a little bit quiet upon our arrival, but take out orders and other patrons soon started appearing. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting. The bird theme is understated but unmistakeable. Your favorite Bird Nerd loved it. Olivia was our knowledgeable server. Jim had a burger with tater tots and I had the meatball sub with homemade potato chips. As most of you are aware, we are not foodies, but meatball subs sometimes fall short with me because I prefer a healthy scoop of red sauce in the sub. This one did not disappoint in that regard or in any other way! Outstanding. The sub was nicely sauced while the bread didn’t get soggy. Perfection. And GMG Jim ate every bite of his burger. We’ll be visiting again for lunch.

GHS Recognized for Important Milestone
Hello Gloucester Public Schools Families,
Gloucester High School has reached an important milestone that we want to make sure all families know about. After a multi-year review of our programs, curriculum, and instruction, Gloucester High School has again been awarded accreditation status by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges.
Moving well beyond the simplicity of test scores, this in-depth review recognized how well Gloucester High Schoolโs teachers work together, the quality and depth of the schoolโs curriculum, how our staff care for and support studentsโ social emotional well-being, and the schoolโs leadership.
The report on GHS is the culmination of a three-year process that included site visits, extensive document reviews, class observations, and interviews with teachers, family members, and school and district leaders.
Dozens of Commendations
NEASC commended Gloucester Highโs work in dozens of areas including:
- The commitment of the school and district to do what is best for students;
- How well our teachers work together to learn and improve instruction and curriculum;
- The remarkable effort to sustain school growth and professional learning during the pandemic years;
- The schoolwide focus on the social and emotional well-being of all students and teachers, including the intentional use of social emotional wellness strategies by teachers;
- The trusting relationships between the students and their homeroom teachers that positively impact the transition into ninth grade;
- The schoolwide commitment to improving equity and inclusion including professional learning, day-to-day implementation of strategies, and eliminating barriers to learning;
- How well the principal serves as the primary educational leader in the school; and
- How students have multiple options to demonstrate their learning through a wide variety of classes, assignments and assessments.
To see the full list of commendations, and to learn more about GHSโs Accreditation Status, please visit the Accreditation Section of Gloucester High Schoolโs new website.
Here is a link to an infographic about GHS being awarded continued accreditation.
The ongoing accreditation of GHS is a significant achievement that warrants recognition across our community. We wish to acknowledge and thank the entire Gloucester High School staff. Their effort and expertise ensures that every day matters for our students.

Annisquam As You Like It candlelight masque & listening party
Jane Deering shares news about an upcoming special event:
Save the date January 21, 2023!
As You Like It: candlelight masque & listening party with Lanes Coven Theater and new music by Scott Moore

As You Like It brings a newly-composed score to the Annisquam Village Church on Saturday,
January 21, 2023 at 7pm. Artist-in-Residence Scott Moore created the eclectic large-scale work
throughout the spring and summer, playing and recording every instrument himself. The music
brings to life the forms and gestures of Shakespeareโs beloved pastoral comedy with a fun, fresh
pastiche of styles and soundsโfrom absurd, neo-Baroque strings and harpsichord, to hip-hop
drums and impressionist dream folk. Originally commissioned by the Louisville (KY) Ballet, and
premiered as a ballet in August, the piece has been substantially reworked to include dialogue
from the play, delivered live by Gloucesterโs rising theater stars, Lanes Coven. Conversation with
the composer will chronicle the journey from conception to premiere, illuminating the artistic
process and framing the eveningโs performance. A feast for the ears and the mind, this unusual
and enchanting evening will also feature light refreshment. All are welcome; donations are
gratefully accepted, and will benefit the AVC music program.
