Have you felt awkward, frustrated or overwhelmed in a synagogue service? Now is your chance to make yourself at home with the beautiful and inspiring liturgy of the Jewish tradition. Join instructors Rabbi Lewis and Rabbinic Intern Adina Allen to unravel the structure, choreography, and meaning of the Shabbat morning service. No previous background in Hebrew or Jewish education is necessary, just the desire to learn.

These classes will be held at TAA at 6:30 pm on October 22, 29; November 5, 12, and 19.

Oceanside Hotel at Magnolia Postcard From George Krewson III

Hi Joey,

Attached is picture of a 1910 postcard, I just purchased on-line through E-bay, of the Oceanside Hotel at Magnolia.  Interesting to know that construction was started in 1878 and the hotel was destroyed by fire in 1958.  My Dad, George Krewson Jr. purchased it in 1931 and sold it in 1945.  For this aging guy those truely were the “good old days.”

Hello!  My name is Tuqui, I am a happy and outgoing girl.  I love spending time with people and going for walks. Greetings far, wide, and especially locally, as this is a limitless local adventure.
Discovery requires reporting. Reporting demands discovery. Such an energy spiral propels the toddler and the scientist to share his novelties. I am an aspiring investigator, bent on extending my curiosity in partnership with you.
I anticipate discoveries of things that are and things that might be, relative to Halibut Point, a jutting in the Massachusetts coast near my Gloucester home. These will be things of the past, present and future, known tangibly or otherwise.
From Halibut Point you can look north to Mount Agamenticus in Maine or west to the unusual spectacle of ocean sunsets over the East Coast. Many visitors bring optical scopes to bring distant sights closer. Being on the tip of the continent, on the edge of rock and sky, it also nudges introspection as when the optical device is reversed to make close things tiny.
Halibut Point is actually across the Town Line in Rockport. Much of it is now a State Park or held by The Trustees of Reservations, which means that you too can walk there to savor interesting encounters, internal or external. It is an uncommonly stimulating place.
Though our acquaintance has been long I formed this declaration of investigation just a year ago. I wanted to give compass to my retirement from the profession of landscape gardener. These researches would be purposeful, outdoorsy, an easy ride on the bike I didn’t own yet. I would be able to enjoy Nature without having to offer improvements or other types of intervention. Although I’m sure there will be other Mug Ups scheduled over the winter, this will be the Grand Finale Last Hurrah Mug Up at Khan Studio and the GMG Gallery on Rocky Neck for the season.  77 Rocky Neck Ave. Gallery 3 – Sunday, 10/13 9:30am.  The coffee will be hot and the eggs deviled.  To those of you who have said: “I’ve always to go to a Mug Up at your gallery”, this is your last chance.  Come for some Sunday morning GMG fun and cameraderie.  Bring along something to share.

Cape Ann TV’s Lisa Smith sent this video by Josef Hnulik, filmed aboard Schooner Adventure during this year’s Schooner Festival  featuring Daisy Nell & Captain Stan on the soundtrack.

Come aboard the Schooner Adventure for a sail in Gloucester Schooner Festival’s Mayor’s Race. It is the Adventure’s first race after she underwent a restoration project lasting two decades. The crew is proud of this historic fishing vessel, as they are the ones who restored her to her former grandeur.

Marine Halloween at Maritime Gloucester

Discover the spooky side of Gloucester’s marine life! During this family-friendly educational program, we’ll be offering monstrous art projects and a chance to meet some live local sea creatures. Learn about scary deep sea creatures and the giant marine life of the distant past as we create a Sea Monster Chalk Mural. Paint a 20-foot long wooden sea serpent and discover the legend of the Gloucester Sea Serpent, said to have visited Gloucester Harbor in 1817. During our Creature Feature, children will get a chance to touch or hold exciting sea life, such as spider crabs, sea stars, and lobsters, as they learn amazing facts about these animals. The event will be hosted in our newly renovated Marine Science Classroom, which now features a giant squid mural and a vast collection of shells and skeletons of the sea!

It doesn't happen every day, that someone you connect with returns for a second visit. Duane and Sandy from MI from yesterday's story returned, and as we were speaking Diana Long came in. As we talked, Sandy turned to Diana and said: "You look like the daughter I never had." Wow, you decide.

Shortly thereafter, Sandy left the gallery soon and returned with a gift for Diana, a huge silver cuff. They had just met minutes before in my gallery and I am speechless. Neither of these women will forget this for the rest of their lives, and neither will I.

I'll also never forget these folks. Duane is made of solid granite, which you can feel if you pat him on the back. He needs the cane, but I'll be his cane any time. His combat incident resulted in 3 fatalities, but he survived. He's a 25% Chippowa American Indian, whose tribe has a reservation at Red Lake MN.

I wish Duane and Sandy a fair wind, and smooth sailing. After being here for one day, they said to me: "I think we could live here." I sincerely hope so.

While out walking today I was struck by the beauty of the Sage Floral Studio store front. People should check out their new location at 274 Main Street, Gloucester for unique gifts and flower arrangements. As you can see by my photos, the shop is gorgeous inside and out!

Imagination Station transforms popsicle sticks in artwork to support SAILS!
When the upcoming 5th graders visited O’Maley last spring to learn about the SAILS program, which promotes building a respectful community through Service, Acceptance, Integrity, Leadership and Success, they each wrote their name on a colorful popsicle stick. This fall, the students in the Imagination Station classroom took the popsicle sticks and turned them into a work of art to support the SAILS initiative. The colorful mosaic mural is on display in the commons at O’Maley. Inspiration through Art!

This is the ghs varsity soccer team on Friday, 10/4 at their cancer benefit game. They won their game and they wore pink shirts for two team moms with breast cancer and wore teal arm bands for me…I was recently diagnosed with a rare ovarian cancer.. I was very touched. My son, third from right, bottom row, Treigh Worell, is the goalie.
