Niles Pond Monster?

niles pond loch ness monster

It was moving so fast through the reeds and then dove under, so I couldn’t get a great shot of it.  It could have been a beaver, or it could be the Niles Pond variety of the Loch Ness monster.

You have until noon tomorrow to save $10

EntrainPoster_900bJust because tomorrow’s Entrain concert will help raise money for Gloucester’s UU Meetinghouse Restoration Fund doesn’t mean you should pay more than you have to.

Yesterday we told you the minute a few good seats were released for John Sebastian (they were gone within an hour of our post).  Today we’re giving you fair warning that $20 advance tickets for Entrain will be gone by noon tomorrow.

So get down to the Liquor Locker tonight or when they open tomorrow at 8am.  Or get advance tickets online here.

The Godmother writes~“Having a nice espresso after a rewarding evening.  I volunteered tonight for Open Door Empty Bowl it actually is a selfish volunteering because I always get more than I give and I meet the most amazing people have fun and do it for a good cause. I do it cuz I’m selfish. You should try it u will never regret the time you give I never have”

Last nights “Empty Bowl” fundraiser event was one of many held nationally to generate awareness concerning hunger and to raise money for local hunger relief programs.  Proceeds from last nights event will benefit open-door summer meal and mobile market programs.

If you would like to support the Open Door please contact them through their website at info@foodpantry.org or call 978-283-6776

It Must be Jelly, ‘Cause Jam Don’t Shake Like That!

Here in the rehab, we're served toast or English muffins with breakfast, accompanied by a tiny .05 oz. sealed cup of so-so jelly. It made me think: I didn't know the difference between jelly, jam, and preserves. Quite a few people I asked didn't know either, especially guys. Here's what I use now and how they differ. -Jelly (L): Cooked fruit juice with sugar and thickened with pectin. -Jam (M): Crushed fruit cooked with sugar. Pectin is in the fruit. Less of a gelled texture that jelly. -Preserves (R): Cooked fruit with sugar. Fruit is in medium to large chunks.

Cape Ann Vernal Pond Team Update

Logos.AI

Looks like we have wrapped up the field work for this year”s batch of vernal pond certifications. I think we will end up with 20, or so, applications. This year’s swampers were Nick Taomina, Matt Burne and me, with assistance from Matt Natti, Sheila Wilson, Herb Stillman, Dan Wells and Nick Holland.

The big office move is scheduled for this month:
We (CAVPT and Kestrel) are moving our office from 15 Lexington Ave. in Magnolia to Main St. Gloucester in Brown’s Mall right across from the police station. The plan is to do this on Saturday, May 17th. We will need help with this. If you have a truck or a van, we could use that too.

Start gathering your donations for the Big Giant Cape Ann Vernal Pond Team/Kestrel Educational Adventures Yard Sale.
Saturday May 24, 2014, 9am-1pm. St. Peter’s Square, Gloucester
Bring your donations to St. Peter’s Square at 7am on the morning of the sale. No TVs or computers please. We will need some volunteers to work at the sale too.

Next show:
Sunday May 18, 2014 2-3pm
Snakes of New England and the World- one hour live animal presentation.
The barn at Castle Hill on the Crane Estate, Ipswich MA
Guess what?… We’ll need volunteers.

And… here’s something:
As a result of the recent article in the Boston Globe Sunday Magazine, ‘Two Rick Roths Walk Into A Bar…’, Rick Roth and I have been invited to be on WGBH, Boston Public Radio on Friday May 16th from 1:35-2pm. Tune in and hear me make a fool out of myself in a new medium.

Later, Rick

we only have one earth, save it

Can You Find the Turtles?

BREAKING NEWS: We just released a few excellent seats for tonight’s John Sebastian Concert

Once in a while it just happens.  Seats that were sold or held for the band get released on the day of the show.  Well, that just happened for tonight’s John Sebastian concert at The Larcom Theatre down the road in Beverly.  We figure FOBs should have first crack at snatching them up before they’re gone.  Get them here.  They won’t last very long.

Were you at Woodstock?  Wish you’d been there?  Come see John Sebastian tonight and ask him what THIS was like (watch video if you want to know what I’m talking about)
