Mayor’s Reception at Maritime Gloucester and Block Party
It was a really pretty night for last evening’s special events: the Schooner Festival Mayor’s Reception hosted at Maritime Gloucester and the Main Street Block Party.
Mayor Romeo Theken with Daisy Nell. Mayor Theken holds a new original Sam Parisi painted oar that would be auctioned off later for the Schooner Festival. I heard Senator Tarr but did not hear the results!
The connecting dock between Maritime Gloucester and Solomon Jacobs Park is awesome!

New Rocky Neck Art Colony Executive Director
The Rocky Neck Art Colony (RNAC) is pleased and excited to announce the appointment of Catherine S. Amidon as the new Executive Director.
Amidon comes to RNAC with a deep background in art history and non-profit arts management, most recently serving as the Founding Director of the Museum of the White Mountains (MWM) at Plymouth State University in NH which, much like the RNAC, was established to introduce people to and “showcase the story, culture, and legacy of the region.” While at the MWM she was responsible for the majority of the fundraising, donor relations, grant writing, organizing exhibitions, publications, and programing, skills and experience that will well serve the RNAC in the next phase of growth.
While working on her ‘Doctorat’ from University of Paris I, Panthéon-Sorbonne, Amidon worked at the Museum of Modern Art of the City of Paris. She was awarded a Fulbright-Hayes Grant for Comparative Cultural Diversity in Transition in the Baltic States and Russia. In 2008, she was awarded a Fulbright Fellowship to Kingston, Jamaica where she worked at the National Gallery of Art.
Prior to the MWM she was the director of exhibitions in spaces across the PSU campus, a position that evolved from her 1999 appointment as Gallery Director. She has worked in a variety of galleries, museums, and universities in the US and abroad and now brings these experiences back to her North Shore roots.
With strong family ties to the area, she is delighted to be working in Gloucester. Amidon plans to “hit the ground running” (with her two Siamese cats in tow) as she joins the Art Colony in mid-September. She will be a welcome addition to the RNAC team and looks forward to transitioning with Interim Director, Patricia Conant, whose deep knowledge of the organization and community has assured a smooth transition.

Parade of Sail Viewing Party at Beauport, the Sleeper McCann House.
Visit Beauport for some of the best views of the annual Gloucester Schooner Festival’s Parade of Sail. Watch schooners sail to the Eastern Point Light breakwater to begin the Mayor’s race for the Esperanto Cup. Coffee and light breakfast refreshments are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Bring blankets and/or chairs and other refreshments if preferred. The house is not available for tours during this event. $10 Historic New England members, $15 nonmembers. Parade of Sail as Schooners proceed from Inner Harbor, past the Fishermen’s Memorial on Stacy Boulevard, to the race starting area off Eastern Point.

Friday night at Maritime Gloucester the beautifully restored Captain’s Cabin on the Adventure was dedicated in honor of Joseph & Helen Garland who treasured Adventure and her home port of Gloucester. Forever to be The Garland Captain’s Cabin.
In honor of the event Peter & Audi Souza presented Helen with a lovely picture painted by Audi.

Maritime Gloucester, located at 23 Harbor Loop in downtown Gloucester, will host its annual Heritage Day celebration from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. The event is free to the public.

Gloucester House Public Clambake
Music, food and a whole lot of fun. The cost is only $16 for Lobster, Corn and Cornbread.
5:15 pm to 5:45 pm
Carillon Concert at Our Lady of Good Voyage, final concert of the summer series can be heard throughout the downtown Gloucester area.

Concert on Stacy Boulevard

Watch Gloucester’s annual Schooner Festival fireworks display from the terrace and lawn of Beauport. Treat yourself to an abridged evening tour as the house transforms at night. The annual Boat Parade of Lights begins at dusk at Jones Creek on the Annisquam River, travels down the river, through the drawbridge and into Gloucester Harbor, ending in the Smith’s Cove area of the harbor.Click here for information on joining the Lighted Boat Parade.

Job Description:
Need a person that can perform small to medium size jobs using various construction methods – primarily unistrut, 80/20, and wire mesh panels. Will need to be able to route wiring and water lines along cable ways. This person will have to work with engineers and designers to review plans, provide constructive feedback and participate in a group collaboration for the various projects.
Job Requirements
- 1st shift M-F with some OT, as needed
- Able to perform construction tasks with little supervision
- Able to work with metal materials in construction
- Able to work on a ladder
- Able to layout walls and hang doors
- Should be familiar with Unistrut parts and construction
- Should be familiar with 80/20 parts and construction
- Should be familiar with Wire Mesh cable trays construction
- Should be able to route wiring along cable trays
- Should be able to route water lines along cable trays
- Able to effectively communicate verbally and in writing
- Must be able to work safely and follow safety procedures and protocols
- Must be able to work with various hand tools, powered and not powered

Perform a wide variety of routine and non-routine electrical / mechanical assembly operations including installation of power distribution cables, harnesses.
· Follow work orders, schematics, wiring diagrams, engineering specifications, sketches, and written and / or verbal instructions to build electro-mechanical and or pneumatic assemblies, subassemblies and components.
· Complete rework on assemblies and / or systems as a result of testing.
What You Need to Bring to the Table:
· One to two (1-2) years electro-mechanical experience. Auto Mechanics is considered electro-mechanical.
· Basic computer skills necessary.
· Vacuum experience preferred.
· Ability to lift and / or carry up to 50 lbs.
· Ability to work in an environment which is subject to cold, heat, and noise.
· Willingness to work off shifts.
· Adherence to safety guidelines and Lean initiatives.
