You know you’ve won over Joey when he starts a podcast with a joke about how much we love Chelsea Berry (listen to podcast here) and then within a week he’s promoting one of her events (see that post here).
Chelsea has a way of channeling what we’re all feeling through her music and tonight will be one of those magical moments when you’ll get to witness Gloucester’s top talent find hope in tragedy and do some real, tangible good in the process. Come down to Cape Ann Brewing tonight at 5pm and experience the transformative power of music.
To get you in the mood, here’s a wonderful video by another one of Gloucester’s rising stars, Inge Berge. How lucky we are to live in a community filled with such talented people who enrich our lives every day! Let’s vow never to take them for granted.
If you’re an American Idol fan, you might just want to cross the bridge this afternoon.
Angie Miller, who was graduated from Beverly High School last year, will be honored in a parade starting at Beverly City Hall today at 3pm ending with a free concert in the south fields at Beverly High School at 4pm.
The Beverly Patch reports that Beverly Mayor Bill Scanlon said he expects “thousands of people” for the “largest crowd we’ve ever assembled” during his 18 year tenure as Mayor.
Here’s a video of Angie performing Rihanna’s hit Diamonds
Then tonight there’s plenty of excellent music in Gloucester. See the full schedule here. Captain Carlos welcomes Jenny Dee and the Deelinquints back for what should be a great show.
This is the final trailer in efforts to get your lazy ass, and your even lazier friend’s assesses, to The Damn Farm Bar & Grille for the world premier.

Dear Joey,
Fans of C. B. Fisk might be interested in the time lapse photography of our
recent installation at Indiana University in Bloomington. It is an
instrument we built in the 1980’s in California in a concert hall that the
client built onto the back of his house. He died a couple of years ago and
we were asked to find a new home for the organ. Last year we disassembled it
and moved it to Indiana where it’s been in storage waiting for preparations
to Alumni Hall to be completed. I went out in March with a crew of five and
we worked 60+ hours a week for more than five weeks to put it all back
together. It’s 30 feet tall, weighs more than 30,000 pounds, and is the
third Fisk instrument at the Jacobs School of Music, which boasts the
largest organ department in the country. It has been a particularly
interesting project for me personally because the original 1987 project was
one of the first times I served as project manager. How fortunate I am to be
able to revisit some of my early work and see what has changed and what has
remained the same. I have a great job.
Here’s what it looked like in California, below, and what it looks like now
in Indiana. This the link to the YouTube time lapse video
shot by an IU student. Note the incomparable walnut carvings by Gloucester’s own Morgan Faulds Pike.
Regards, Greg Bover

Come celebrate the premiere of my film, Life Story of the Black Swallowtail Butterfly, on the Summer Solstice, Friday, June 21st at 7:30pm, at the Cape Ann Community Cinema.
As everyone who knows me knows, I have been working on developing this film for nearly two years. It is the first to be completed in the trilogy and I am overjoyed to announce the premiere will be held at the Cape Ann Community Cinema. Many thanks to Rob Newton for inviting me to have the premiere at his wonderfully unique and super fun movie theatre. I hope everyone will come celebrate this special night with me. I think you will love seeing scenes of our native flora and fauna, filmed all around Gloucester and Cape Ann, on the Big Screen.
The Life Story of the Black Swallowtail Butterfly is a 45-minute narrated film. Every stage of the butterfly’s life cycle is experienced in vibrant close-up, from conception to pupation to metamorphosis. The film is for adults and for children so that all can gain a deeper understanding of the symbiotic relationship between wildflowers and pollinators and the vital role they play in our ecosystem. Filmed in Gloucester.
ADVANCE TICKETS available at Cape Ann Community Cinema
Light refreshments, including wine, and beer will be served. I hope to see you there!

The Motif No. 1 Day festival celebrates art across different mediums on May 18th, and this year’s event is jam-packed with activities, which will be highlighted over the next few weeks. First part of the festival we’re highlighting on GMG? The Motif 1 short film festival, a new part of the event this year. The festival organizers are calling for films up to 10 minutes in length with Cape Ann as the subject. Any aspect of Cape Ann — industry, geography, the arts, the people — anything that conveys a sense of place. If you have something you’ve created, or know a filmmaker who is working on a piece on Cape Ann, please submit a film or spread the word about submissions for screening consideration. For more info go to www.rockportartfestivals.com. For inspiration check out Emile Doucette’s short film on the Lanesville Parade.
Bob Hastings, co-producer of the Gloucester Blues Festival, sent me an email this morning saying they just signed Lydia Warren. We saw her open for Savoy Brown at the Bull Run on December 1 (see post about that concert here). Alone on stage with her strat, she captured the crowd with her soulful vitality. At the Blues Fest, she’ll have her full band!
From Lydia’s website:
“Changing the face of the blues” – NBC’s Today Show
Lydia Warren tours internationally from Brooklyn to Beirut, whipping audiences into a frenzy at each stop. A versatile singer, songwriter, guitarist and producer, the Boston-based performer tours and records as a solo act and with her band. The Lydia Warren Band has been nominated for a Boston Music Award, appeared on NBC’s Today Show and has released five albums.

State police released this video shot from the state police airwing helicopter hovering over the boat where the second Boston Marathon bombing suspect was arrested Friday night.
This morning local rising star, Chelsea Berry, posted a video.
Here’s what she says about it:
I woke up this morning and felt the need to share with you how grateful I am for all of the love in this world- because for every one individual who is bent on causing pain and destruction, for every human who goes out into the world with hate in his or her heart, there are literally millions who want the very opposite, who are brave and self-sacrificing, who are kind and caring and want peace for the world– teachers, writers, painters, police officers, musicians, soldiers, friends, family. I love you!! -chelsea
Nothing more to say, but THANK YOU CHELSEA BERRY!
