Today’s grand open house for two new C. B. Fisk pipe organs was a joyful event, crowded with well-wishers, fans, friends, and musicians. Opus 148 will be installed at Christ Church, Cincinnati, and Opus 150 at Benjamin Franklin’s Christ Church in Philadelphia.

How exciting to share that the new C. B. Fisk Opus 148 organ will be available to view at the Fisk open house on May 13th. The organ is being installed at my mother- and father-in-law’s church, Christ Church, in Cincinnati, Ohio. It was so exciting to be at the first meting with my in-laws and Greg Bover. Our daughter Liv has performed at the cathedral and my sister-in-law Amy was married there. I am so looking forward to seeing and hearing it on our next visit to Ohio!

If you have never been to a Fisk open house you are missing a truly exceptional Gloucester experience. The instruments are stunning up close and the artistry and workmanship exquisite.

The first photo is of the scale model of the Cincinnati organ, Opus 148, which has 2 manuals and 22 stops. The second photo is of Opus 150, with 3 manuals and 49 stops and that is headed to Christ Church in Philadelphia. Both organ models are scaled at 1:16 and both will be at the open house.

Aren’t the scale models beautiful and fascinating? I love looking at them nearly as much the real thing.

Gloucester Filmmaker Dennis Lanson’s “To Hear the Music” Airs on PBS This Sunday!!!

Dear Friends and Family,

I thought you might like to know that Gloucester filmmaker Dennis Lanson’s fine documentary about the organ we (C.B. Fisk) built at Harvard University will be shown on WGBH Channel 2 at five o’clock on Sunday, January 11.

It’s called “To Hear the Music,” and it not only follows the construction and installation of our Opus 139 at Harvard’s Memorial Church, but also looks back at the 54 year history of our unique Gloucester company, and at the life of Charles Fisk, our founder and mentor.

Edgar Meyer & Mike Marshall at Rockport Music on 9/22/13

Rockport Music presents legendary double bassist Edgar Meyer and virtuoso mandolinist Mike Marshall on September 22nd.  Other September events include several special film events including the Manhattan Short Film Festival and a Sneak Preview Event of a new film about the Gloucester-based organ building company C.B. C.B. Fisk Time Lapse Installation

Dear Joey,
Fans of C. B. Fisk might be interested in the time lapse photography of our
recent installation at Indiana University in Bloomington. It is an
instrument we built in the 1980’s in California in a concert hall that the
client built onto the back of his house. He died a couple of years ago and
we were asked to find a new home for the organ. Last year we disassembled it
and moved it to Indiana where it’s been in storage waiting for preparations
to Alumni Hall to be completed. I went out in March with a crew of five and
we worked 60+ hours a week for more than five weeks to put it all back
together. It’s 30 feet tall, weighs more than 30,000 pounds, and is the
third Fisk instrument at the Jacobs School of Music, which boasts the
largest organ department in the country. It has been a particularly
interesting project for me personally because the original 1987 project was
one of the first times I served as project manager. How fortunate I am to be
able to revisit some of my early work and see what has changed and what has
remained the same. I have a great job.

Last week, Rick Isaacs was kind enough to give me a behind-the-scenes tour of the C. B. Fisk workshop where he works.  They are internationally renowned pipe organ builders, and their facility in West Gloucester shows why.  I was really impressed by the way they make much of the organ practically from scratch – they combine a wide variety of skills and disciplines to go from lumber and ingots all the way to a complete organ.  Their workspace is filled with neat tools and personal touches.  Here are a few of the photos I took. Open House Today at C.B. Fisk!

Reminder: Open House today from 2 to 6 PM to celebrate the completion of Opus 143, a two-manual, 21-stop organ. C.B. Fisk is a premiere and internationally recognized builder of organs. Their workshop and headquarters are located in Gloucester. If you have never been to an open house at the C.B. Fisk workshop, you are in for a very special treat. Delightful music provided by guest organists trying out the new instrument may be heard throughout the afternoon and refreshments are typically served. Opus 143 will then be dismantled, shipped to it’s new home in China Grove, North Carolina, and then installed there.

Greg Bover Represents! In California

Hey Joey,

Here I am on a ranch up in the hills above Palo Alto; that’s San Francisco Bay in the background. It was seventy today.

I’m here with my crew removing an organ we made in 1987 for a gentleman who built a concert hall as an addition to his house. He was a great guy, we had good times while working here, but he died a couple of years ago. His widow asked C. B. Fisk, Inc. to find a good home for the instrument, and we did. The three-manual, 45 stop organ, with 2,838 pipes, will be going to Indiana University, which has one of the finest organ departments in the country. But first we have to dismantle it completely, pack all 15 tons of it with great care into two 53 foot moving vans and then ship it to Bloomington. About a month’s work for six of us.  Some time next year when IU finishes modifications to Alumni Hall, we’ll put it all back together again. (I have a great job.)
