Did someone say “the new playground equipment has arrived”? It’s a HUGE week in the renovation of Burnham’s Field in central Gloucester. Here’s your Burnham’s Field renovation video update.
I was talking with a friend the other day about how our young children are like little sponges and we shared stories about the crazy amounts of information that they are able to learn…and I remembered this little video.
I count my blessings every day that Thatcher and Finn are in love with learning and that they appreciate all that is being introduced to them at the Harborlight-Stoneridge Montessori School.
Thatcher took this video of Finn practicing a song that he learned to remember all of the countries in Africa….and then it leads into his actual performance with his Preschool class….during which, he clearly needs to pee and it appears he is breaking a sweat trying to remember the words. He is also busting out some of his father’s mad dance moves 🙂 Undeniably my husband’s child.
WOW! Good news is you don’t have to choose because they’ll ALL be at the Gloucester Blues Festival in 3 1/2 weeks. And if you get your tickets now (right here), you’ll save $12. You really don’t want to miss this one . . .

We all know this area has a ton of music talent, and SOUL REBEL PROJECT is among the best. If you love true Roots Reggae, then you already know these guys well. If you’ve never had the chance to see them live, start kicking yourself now. After you recover, go to SoulRebelProject.com and see where the next big show will be. Ok, I love these guys for many reasons, one being that they are professionals at what they do, and then there’s the fact that they’ve become good friends, and they just keep getting better every year. Today just so happens to be the iTunes album release date for HIGHER PLACE (on VP Records), and the release of their first video KING. I shot and cut this video for the guys from a live show I taped this past spring. We never intended on making any particular video that night, just grabbing some footage, but here you have it. So watch the video, please share the link, then go check out the tracks on iTunes, you will become a fan instantly. Enjoy!!! (remember click the gear at bottom right for 1080hd)
Here is one of the movies being screened “Telephone Island”:

Summertime in Gloucester – its time for a party!
Thursday, July 10th marks the launch of the 41st Harbor Loop Concert Series. This is the perfect event for music-loving folks of all ages and the fun-loving musicians who enjoy playing for their hometown crowd.
Concert organizer Bradley Royds proclaims “The kick-off acts are sure to cause unbridled happy-feet and impulsive head-bobbing.” Jake Pardee will open at 6:30pm, and Mamadou will hit the stage from 7:45pm until 9:00pm.
Headliner, Mamadou, is well-known for whipping up original world-fusion rhythm and reggae based music. The band is comprised of a variety of well known Boston based musicians, featuring multiple percussion players and Pardee as lead guitarist. Royds adds “Jake is fantastic and he will knock it out of the park before Mamadou does the same.”

The last few times we’ve warned you against waiting until the last minute it has been because the shows were selling out (which they did) and we didn’t want you to complain that you hadn’t heard about them until it was too late. This time we’re trying to save you $12 PER TICKET to the Gloucester Blues Festival, which is the biggest and best blues festival that will ever come to your backyard for prices like these: $28 in advance or $40 at the gate.
I know, August 9 seems far away, but you can only buy advanced tickets until August 4. That’s only 4 weeks from today and given this great weather, you’ll probably forget because you’re having too much fun in the sun during the day and partying too hard under the stars at night.
But right now, you’re reading this blog post, which means you’re at a computer or on a smart-phone, either of which can be used to get your tickets RIGHT HERE. Then you can relax and enjoy the rest of July without worrying that you’ll be distracted at just the wrong moment by that nagging voice asking, “What was I supposed to do?”
Congratulations to Kyle Barry, the 2014 Saturday Greasy Pole Champion! This was Kyle’s second win. He was also the 2013 Friday Champion.
The first clip is especially Felliniesque but then again, the entire time I am shooting the greasy pole I feel as though I am in the midst of a Fellini film. Friday’s and Sunday’s films are coming in the next few days, with some Very Fun Footage.
I Loved this song when first I heard it and thought it perfect for Greasy Pole Walkers. Written and performed by Fitz and The Tantrums, “The Walker,” (that is really the title of the song!) is from their second album, More Than Just a Dream.
Previous GMG Posts about Kyle Barry: Kyle Barry for the Win! Additional music note ~ Fitz and The Tantrums will be performing at the House of Blues in Boston on November 15th.
Last night, July 3, 2014, was the 7th anniversary of the annual Runaround Sound Extravaganza, a free concert on the Boulevard after the Horribles parade. Last night we had the biggest crowd of the past 7 years even though there were no fireworks. It really is all about the music. Check out the finale.
All I can say is that I’m honored to live in the City that brought us the tremendously talented Carlos Menezes, Jr., who, along with some of Gloucester’s best musicians perform this show for free every year — and Ringo Tarr, who, along with his team, do more work behind the scenes in one day than many people do in a month.
