Sorry Charlie

In the past couple of days I’ve gotten a few emails from a person I really think the world of.  This woman is smart, sweet and well meaning but for the sake of answering what some may be thinking collectively in one post instead of individual emails I’ll address some of their concerns here.

This woman has been bothered by the potty humor or cursing that sometimes appears on GMG, written mainly by me.  She went on to tell me that she fears I’ll lose the GMG audience and it reflects poorly on me and the town.

Here is my respectful response to my friend who was bothered by the What Would You Do? post yesterday-

I’m sorry you didn’t find it amusing but I did.  Maybe that’s what my humor level is- like a third grader.  The blog had the highest amount of hits in one single day ever just yesterday, the day you wrote this email.

I appreciate all your comments and have the highest respect for you but I won’t compromise what the blog is to try to please everyone and bastardize it in a way to make it sterile and uninteresting from my perspective.  If I was getting paid to sell out my style and be the face of the city or the chamber of commerce or some other business group I would write it from that perspective but that isn’t what GMG is or ever promised to be.

The tag line from day one has been  “My view from the dock” and if the potty humor or the not-so-pretty side of things bothers you then I don’t know what to say except I will not compromise what I’m writing or posting for the sake of anyone. It is what it is- the good, bad and ugly.

Defrosted Flats Of Herring Get Salted in Vats

Each Layer Of Herring Gets Salt As A Preservative

What would you do?

Here’s the scenario-

I go to a restaurant to grab a quick lunch before heading home from the dock.
I order a soda water w/lime and a burger and head to the bathroom to wash my hands after being at the dock all morning.  So after trying to open the mens room door I find it locked so I step aside and wait for whoever is in there to finish thier business (always an akward situation).
The fella opens the door and storms past me and I head in only to find a ginormous crap in the bowl. It was so big it curled around the bowl like a freaking python.

Now I wasn’t going in there to pinch a loaf, I was simply going in to wash my hands but now it’s gonna look like it was me that left that huge steamy turd.

I tried to flush the toilet using my foot but it wouldn’t go down.

Would you alert the manager and risk them thinking it was you that left the present behind or would you ignore it as if you never saw it?

Where Zat? #28

This week’s Where Zat may be too simple for those of you who know this area. But it could be difficult because it’s kind of generic. Anyone know for sure?

Have fun! And thanks for playing Where Zat for the last 4 months!DSC_7045 [640x480]

BLOCK PARTY CANCELED

Due to the near certainty of rain and out of respect to people who may want to alter their plans the June Block Party Has Been Cancelled.

We would like to encourage people to still go downtown and enjoy the shops and restaurants but the streets will not be closed

This building  is at the corner of Toronto Ave. heading out to the lighthouse next to the grey shed right before you turn the corner to go to Niles Pond. It’s a cool little structure with the rock wall and the wood design at the top.

Rhumb Line Thursday Night Blues Party

Well, summertime’s here and you need sumphthin’ to keep you kool… so here it is: Mr. Willie Alexander heads over to the Rhumb Line this Thursday for a rip-snorting, heart attack inducing maelstrom of good ol’ rock n’ roll. Backing up over him will also be his longtime  glitarist from his Boom-Boom band, Mr. Billyclub Loosigian, and much revered drumnambulist Mr. Stevie Chaggaris. As usual, Greg T. and I will try to rein everyone in just enough to not blow a fuse. Good luck to us! It’ll be a great nite, so don’t miss it!

Where Zat? #28- Revisited

DSC_6614 [640x480]I guess this was a tough one. So if you’re interested in where it is, take a ride out to the lighthouse on Eastern Point. It will be on the way. Look closely at the buildings and you’ll find it. Let me know if you spot it!

Fort Walk 2005

Fort WalkAfter the fireworks on Sunday night, when everything is winding down, around 11:30, the statue of St. Peter is carried through the Fort. The group stops along the way at the homes of those who have lived in the Fort for years. Confetti is thrown and the crowd shouts “Viva San Pietro!”. As the festivities close, St. Peter is placed back in the window at the Club until June of the next year.
