My View of Life on the Dock
Toby uses bluefish racks for bait. it is cheaper than herring and stays in the bait bags longer.

See the spikes on the nose of this lobster? Notice how they are sort of dull? Well that’s because this particular lobster is an old shell hard lobster that hasn’t shed in a while.
The newly molted and new-shell lobsters have razor sharp points (because they have not been honed down yet) that love to find the underneath part of your fingernails when you are grading lobsters without gloves on. It hurts like a motherf^cker when one of those spikes jams up under your nail, believe me.
Here is George, first mate on The Trapper John taking off his oilskins after a long day fishing.

I was up on the roof yesterday looking for leaks and thought this made an interesting shot.
This is the take out boom which swings out over the boats to hoist the catch up over the rail and onto our dock.
Looking down you can see Frankie and George Hardy on the front of the pier waiting for boats to come in.

Here’s another freak lobster landed at the dock yesterday. Notice how it has a claw growing out of it’s claw. we haven’t had a freaky lobster like this in a while so I figured that I’d share this pic with you guys.

All baited up and ready to go lobstering. See the bait in the tote? That’s what you call dragger bait and is mostly comprised of mud hake, small whiting and herring.

CJ’s fourth day on his fourth different boat was spent aboard Tony Gross’ Sandollar. Here is Tony and CJ bringing in their catch.

I think Mark forgot to take his meds this morning.
Y’all may not believe this but CJ refereed the New England Revolution/DC United match last night at Foxboro, got done reviewed the game tape and then hopped in his car at 2:00AM to get to Gloucester to go fishing on his Fourth Boat this morning at 5:00AM.
He went out lobstering with Tony Gross this morning at 5:00AM aboard The Sandollar. We’ll have a report on how he is holding up when he gets in tonight. So far he has been an iron man.
Tony took four boxes of bait this morning, showing no mercy at all for CJ’s schedule. As long as Tony has unloaded here I don’t think he has ever taken four boxes of bait (the previous most amount of bait being three boxes).

Early Morning.
Off to tend the gear goes Mark, Matt and CJ. I’m looking forward to watching the New England Revolution/DC United game that CJ will be officiating Wednesday night. From what I understand there will be serious playoff implications on the line.
