Deep Sea Fishing & Lobstering Video From Tom Guilmette

Tom Guilmette details his day videotaping aboard the Anne Rowe-

Lobster Short Movie

Although I completely disagree with the premise, this short lobster video with Nick Thune is pretty funny.

Grow some balls and eat the tasty crustacean already!

Then watch this video interview with this salesman of the Crustastun, a machine that electrocutes lobsters.

The Jennie C Hauls Lobster Gear Video

This video was shot by FOB Paul Frontiero.  I suspect we will be getting many more contributions from Paul who was the man responsible for printing the GMG tshirts for the Russo Family fundraising.

Less money in wallets, less lobster on plates

Article from The Press of Atlantic City

Less money in wallets, less lobster on plates

(Published: Sunday, February 15, 2009) PLEASANTVILLE – In 2003, Casino Lobster owner Greg Goff estimated his company was selling 400,000 pounds of lobster to casinos, 500,000 pounds overall, each year. Goff now thinks that estimate was high and should have been closer to 200,000 pounds, “because it’s not off that much,” the owner said. Last year, Casino Lobster sold 90,000 pounds to casinos. That amounted to 54 percent of the 168,000 pounds sold overall. The dropoff was most intense in the fall. It colored what had been a “good year in general,” Goff said. Demand for lobster fell after prices rose in the summer. “When the economy falters, people aren’t really eating high-end,” Goff said. Goff has relied more on part-time workers than in the past. It also helps that he has cross-trained his staff for years – truck drivers also can cut fish, for example. The business has been around for 23 years. Goff would not predict how Year 24 will go.-

Art Haven Lobster Buoy Auction- Live At Cruiseport Video

You are not going to believe how much some of these buoys sold for.

Watch the video by clicking the picture below to see how much.

Art Haven Lobster Bouys Up For Auction

Here is the buoy that I so desperately wanted.  I was foiled though as I quickly realized that if I came home with a $200 lobster buoy that the Mrs would likely beat me over the head with it.

It was fun bidding though.  Video coming at 8:00AM

Senator Tarr Auctions Off Georgie Hansen’s Buoy

Forgive the terrible picture quality.   I did a horrible job shooting the pictures as I was distracted all night trying to figure out how I was going to steal away the lobster buoy with the lobster on it (more on that later).

But this was the scene with each child holding up their hand painted buoy and Senator Tarr auctioning them off.  I don’t know how he held his voice up for that long but he did a remarkable job.    Georgie is the daughter of good eggs Dave and Erika Hansen.  Erika was sitting in front of Janice Lufkin Shea and I and facing the stage.  When the bidding started she had no idea that she was bidding against Janice and I who were standing right behind her while she was facing the stage.  The bidding quickly escalated and when all was said and done Janice won out with an $85 bid.

The whole night was a huge success and I have to believe that they didn’t anticipate how many people showed up and actively bid.  When there is a great cause our community steps up and this was certainly a great cause.

Classy broad that Janice is she gave the buoy that she had just won back to Erika.

Pete Mondello Displays Repaired Lobster Buoy

Here’s Pete Mondello with some repaired buoys.  The thing about the Mondello boys is that they never ever stop.  They always are doing something weather it be tinkering on the boat or repairing traps or buoys.  They never stop.  Talk about energy.  It’s just go-go-go.

Sean Secures The Bait Before Heading Out

The boys didn’t seem to happy to be going out this morning.  With the cold water temperatures the catches fall off dramatically.  Tough to get motivated when you know you’re not going to make a whole lot of dough.

Melissa K Covered In Snow 01/18/09

Moments after I took this picture the Kippen boys shoveled off the deck and headed out to go lobstering.

They got to about the Paint Factory when the engine alarm sounded.  Realizing that the temperature of the engine had spiked dramatically they did the right thing and shut it down immediatly.  Many times in the bitter cold cooling lines in engines freeze up and it can cause an engine to overheat.  You can get a blown head gasket and many other problems.  Shutting it down right away was the right course of action to prevent damage to the engine.

Kind of ironic that extreme cold creates a problem with overheating but that’s what happens when the coolant doesn’t get to circulate.

Lobsters In South Beach

It was good to see many of the restaurants had lobsters .  What was even bettter was that they were leading with them as specials for not a ton of money.  One fancy outdoor cafe had a lobster dinner for $15.99  While a low price isn’t great for fishermen, it’sgood that the product is getting good visability so when the economic downturn les up people and chefs still have lobster on thier brain.
