Thank you to Musicians, Sponsors, Volunteers & Fans for a magical solstice

WinterSolsticeSm_FlyWhat a gift it is to live in a community full of tremendously talented musicians, who can bring world-class music to one of Gloucester’s most treasured spaces.

All the performers were at the top of their game last night and, based on their level of talent, they could have brought giant egos with them.

But they chose to leave their egos at the door and collaborate at the highest level of professionalism in order to lift a packed house at Gloucester’s UU Church to a level of musical joy that many said they hadn’t felt in years.

Bravo!

Thanks to all the sponsors, volunteers and Cape Ann TV crew who helped to bring The Cape Ann Winter Solstice Concert to life.

Thanks, most of all, to everyone who came out to support our local music treasures and help restore the Meetinghouse so it can become a premier listening venue for dozens of major musical events  every year.

Based on last night’s success, it’s safe to say we’ll be doing this again and again and again.  Stay tuned …

The best radio Christmas shows you’ll hear this year ~ SUN 12/22 @9AM & 7PM on 104.9

Curtain Up host Aurelia Nelson

We’ve pointed out before that North Shore 104.9 host Aurelia Nelson frequently features local talent on her show, “Curtain Up” (see examples here).  This Sunday 12/22 she pulls out all the stops with her hyper-local Christmas show featuring some of Cape Ann’s top talent performing a Christmas repertoire that rivals what you’d hear on a big city radio show!

You’ll hear Dan King’s wonderful new Christmas song “Handmade With Love (Present)” featuring Charlee Bianchini, “I wish I Could Fly” written by Allen Estes & Fly Amero, new songs by Bryan Alex, John Stevens and Angie Miller (Beverly’s own Idol finalist) and selections by the Beantown Swing Orchestra.

We know you’ll be at Gloucester’s UU Church on Saturday night, where you can see many of these stars LIVE — and we promise the show will be over in plenty of time for you to get a good night’s sleep and get up by 9am for Curtain Up on North Shore 104.9.

Then on Sunday night at 7pm, you can hear a real radio play, “It’s a Wonderful Life.”  This is a rare experience you simply can’t get any other way.  Build a fire, sit together as a family in the living room, tune the radio to 104.9, chill in a comfy chair, close your eyes and lose yourself in this classic story.  When’s the last time you heard a radio play?

STRESSED? Here’s an antidote that will make you feel great!

Gordon Sax joins The Thursday night blues party tonight @ The Rhumb Line 8-11 ~ 12.19.2013

Dave Sag's
Dave Sag’s

 Dave says,

Well, this is it. The high point of my year. My therapist, me, warns me not to believe everything I think. I’m going with that one. And you should too. So, come out this Thursday to witness the Star in the East who’s gonna fall out of the sky and land on his ass just for you. Not Fred, I’m talking about that formidable pied piper Mr. Gordon “Sax” Beadle. Frontman, and master of the tenor honk-a-phonium, this guy is the drill sergeant of the blues. He’ll have you quaking and reaching for the brass ring all night long. Sax Gordon is my personal favorite blasting cap. Fire in the hole!!
But wait! There’s more. Knot only is Gordie on the bill, but also my favorite drumbler and comedy partner, Mr. Edd Scheer. Known for his incredible understanding of my random mutterings, Edd’s sure to raise your blood pressure by 30 PSI. We both suffer  from riposte traumatic stress disorder, leaving our incredible Qatarist, Mr. Mike DiBari, lurching in the wake of  the verbal tsunami. It’ll be the best night of the year! You’ll quake, you’ll shake, you’ll need  some kind of crutch. Bring Diaperine®.

Win Dinner & A Show with Senate Minority Leader Bruce Tarr and help needy kids!

Senator Bruce Tarr

If you’re listening to North Shore 104.9 today, you know they’re broadcasting Senator Bruce Tarr’s North Shore Toy Drive live until 6pm and you’ll hear Senator Tarr mention a “Once in a lifetime” auction on air.  We don’t want people who can’t have the radio on to miss out, so here’s the scoop:

This Sunday, Senator Tarr is taking 4 people as his guests to the Larcom Theatre at 2pm for Henri Smith New Orleans Christmas Matinee followed by dinner at Teresa’s Prime (the new steakhouse in North Reading).

You can bid on this “once in a lifetime opportunity” by sending an email to northshoretoydrive@yahoo.com with your name, phone number and your bid.

Senator Tarr will be updating the bid price live on the radio during the day — and you can continue bidding during the day tomorrow too.  The winning bid will be announced tomorrow (FRI) at 5pm.  The money will be donated to the winner’s local Toy Drive charity.

Dave Sag’s Blues Party tonight with Dennis Brennan, Matt Stubbs and Chris Rivelli and dear Ol’ Dave @ The Rhumb Line tonight 8-11 12.12.2013

dennis brennan matt stubbs chris revelli

Dave says,

Let’s welcome the Boston Brain Trust back to Gloucester in the form of  the incandescent Dennis Brennan with his cohorts Matt Stubbs and Chris Rivelli. Another close shave with  three chords and the truth. Every time these guys show up, I feel like I’ve been reborn into a higher form of reptile! Someday, I won’t need the sun to make my aorta pop with rhythm. But for now,I’ll get out of the house before it’s too late. Put on your Keds and come out swinging.
Dennis, of the oleaginous windpipes and great collection of hats, is truly a master of the blues. Not only that, but of many other styles, too. Why am I telling you this?? You should already know!  His gunzel  Matt Stubbs has travelled the world  many times around backing up many famous cats. A sizzling guitarist, watch his fingers: now you see it, now you don’t. And Chris? Well, he’s the de facto Rheumful o’ Blooz agitprop, reedy to scramble your eggs with his whisking style.
Truly one of my favorite agglomerations, I can’t wait to see how it ends! Remember: Winter hours now 8 to 11

It’s worth getting up by 9am on Sunday to catch “Curtain Up” on 104.9

Just in case you haven’t noticed, North Shore 104.9’s “Curtain Up” host, Aurelia Nelson, has been inviting Cape Ann musians to be her guests more frequently of late and it points to a trend of featuring locals on the station as a whole (see some examples here).

Tomorrow (SUNDAY) at 9AM, she does it again, this time with Henri Smith. Henri will talk about all the special guest he has pull together for his New Orleans Christmas show at the Larcom Theatre.
