Gloucester’s Police Chief Leonard Campanello is a ROCK STAR!

Chief Campanello’s “Angel” project began yesterday.  If you don’t know what that is, read this article in the Gloucester Daily Times.

The Chief’s project has been the subject of national news for about a month now and he’s even been challenged by the district attorney (see this article in the Boston Globe).

But our Chief remains cool as a cucumber.

Just listen to him in this NPR interview from yesterday — especially the part where he says, “We appreciate the district attorney’s comments, but the fact is that the police have always had the discretion to charge or not charge and not just with drugs, with most crimes.”

If you see Chief Campanello, please congratulate him on his vision, compassion, brilliance and cool head.

This is definitely the guy you want protecting our city and helping to heal our drug problem. BRAVO CHIEF!

We knew we were lucky to have Chief Campanello come to Glocuester when he brought the crowd to their feet with his Springsteen version of “Santa Claus is Coming To Town” at the first Cape Ann Winter Solstice in December 2013.  Sheila Roberts Orlando captured the moment perfectly in the photo below:

WinterSolsticeBenefit2014Tickets for tonight’s Cape Ann Winter Solstice benefit for Gloucester’s UU Meetinghouse Restoration are only $20 in advance at The Liquor Locker 287 Main Street. But you can only get those tickets until 3pm today.

After that, tickets are $25 at the door.

Plus we have a few VIP tickets left on-line here.

We realize this holiday season can be hectic and stressful.  That’s why this year’s Solstice concert is designed to take you away and give you an new appreciation for the power of acoustic music in a magical space to cleanse the soul.

When you hear Boston rock star Charlie Farren’s hits like ‘Fool In Love’ and ‘You are the Only One’ solo with guitar in this intimate room, you’ll feel them even more deeply than the electric versions.  Add Danielle Miraglia’s soulful blues with slide guitar and mix in Gloucester’s iconic Americana singer/songwriter Allen Estes as host and we guarantee you’ll leave having been taken to a place you’ve never experienced before.

Just Announced: Boston Rock Star Charlie Farren of FARRENHEIT and THE JOE PERRY PROJECT will headline this year’s Cape Ann Winter Solstice concert hosted by Allen Estes with Rising Boston Blues Star Danielle Miraglia (who blew the crowd away with James Montgomery at this year’s Celebrate Gloucester benefit for The Open Door).

You can get tickets to this very special event at The Cape Ann Farmers Market’s first Indoor Market is tomorrow (SAT) 10am – 1pm at Gloucester’s UU Church. Just go to the Farmers Market and look for the UU Church table.

VIDEO PREVIEW: Cape Ann Winter Solstice Concert on Cape Ann TV Sat & Sun @ 8PM

Cape Ann TV’s Jim Capillo has edited the historic Cape Ann Winter Solstice Concert on Dec 21, 2013 at the Gloucester’s Meetinghouse into a 2 hour special that will premiere on Cape Ann TV Channel 12 this Saturday and Sunday (Jan 18 & 19) at 8PM.  Jim organized a 3 camera shoot using his wicked cool crane and film crew Roger Ward and Tina Greel from Local Music Seen.  The result is a gorgeous production that you truly don’t want to miss.

WinterSolsticeSm_FlyWhat a gift it is to live in a community full of tremendously talented musicians, who can bring world-class music to one of Gloucester’s most treasured spaces.

All the performers were at the top of their game last night and, based on their level of talent, they could have brought giant egos with them.

But they chose to leave their egos at the door and collaborate at the highest level of professionalism in order to lift a packed house at Gloucester’s UU Church to a level of musical joy that many said they hadn’t felt in years.

Bravo!

Thanks to all the sponsors, volunteers and Cape Ann TV crew who helped to bring The Cape Ann Winter Solstice Concert to life.

Thanks, most of all, to everyone who came out to support our local music treasures and help restore the Meetinghouse so it can become a premier listening venue for dozens of major musical events  every year.

Based on last night’s success, it’s safe to say we’ll be doing this again and again and again.  Stay tuned …

Cape Ann Solstice Tickets Available at the Door ~ Plenty of FREE PARKING

You can’t get advanced tickets online any more, but you can still go the Gloucester UU Church and get tickets at the door ($25 for all ages).  Box office opens at 4pm.  Doors open at 7.  Concert starts at 7:30.  There’s plenty of free parking at the Church and nearby (Trinity Church parking lot and Library lot off School St. are both plowed) so come on down and celebrate the longest night of the year with some of Cape Ann’s finest musicians while you help to restore one of Gloucester’s most treasured buildings!

Only a few hours left to get discounted tickets to Cape Ann Solstice

Advanced tickets are $20 General Admission ($15 under 12 or over 65).  Pews are still available (online only) $195 side pew seats 10 adults, $225 center pew seats 12 adults.

You can get advanced tickets online here, or the Winter Solstice Farmers Market at the UU Church (10 Church Street) from 9AM – Noon, or at Liquor Locker 287 Main St.

After the Farmers Market closes tomorrow at noon, all tickets are $25 for all ages.  We’ll open up the box office at 4pm at the UU Church (cash only please).  Doors open at 7pm.

You have a few options for tickets:

Reserved Pews (no hassle):  $225 Seats 12 or $195 Seats 10 (less than $20/person)
or
General Admission $20 in advance $15 Child/Senior (under 12/over 65)
$25 At the Door (all ages) – Cash only, please, at the door.

Tickets are available online, at the church and liquor locker.  They will also be available on Saturday morning at Solstice Farmers Market.

Plenty of free parking available:

  • both sides of Pine Street and Proctor Street (Pine becomes Proctor after it crosses Church Street)
  • in a small parking lot on Proctor Street (free parking)
  • portions of both sides of Middle Street (and any place on Middle where there is a parking meter – no fee on Sunday)
  • one side of Church Street (please be mindful not to block the driveway of residents)

Parking also available at Trinity Congregational Church 70 Middle Street & Saint John’s Church at 48 Middle Street
