Kaitlin’s Response
Many of you wrote in asking just what the response from LA TV producer Kaitlin Herbert was after we requested nude photos before we could enter any serious negotiations to use the Crew of The Degelyse for the Food Network’s newest show.
In case you missed the first part I’ll repost it for you followed by Kaitlin’s response-
So yesterday morning I get an email from a woman named Kaitlin Herbert. Kaitlin works for the television production company that produces the number one show on BRAVO- “the Millionaire Matchmaker and one of the top rated shows on Animal Planet “Pit Boss”.
So her production company is looking for some fishermen for a particular type of show they are developing for the Food Network. She told me that she found GMG after an extensive search for Gloucester Fishing vessels. I sent here a pile of links to some of the videos we’ve done featuring Tuffy, Stoga and Trapper John.
Within an hour or so I got an email back from Kaitlin asking for the contact information for Tuffy saying that he and his crew seem like a great group of guys and that they would love to hear their story.
Tuffy happened to be out fishing but when he hit the dock we taped a special message for Kaitlin which you can view below.
Watch the video before reading her response so it will make sense.
Here is Kaitlin’s email response to Tuffy’s video-
I’m both mildly offended and incredibly impressed by your video. While I won’t be sending any nude pictures (that’s what free internet porn is for, boys), I’ve spoken to my bosses and they’re interested in speaking with the crew to get a better feel for the guys and what they do on a daily basis. They really enjoyed the video of Stoga, and would like to know if he’s part of the crew. If there is any more information you could give us, we would greatly appreciate it.

Chickity Check It! Even This “food and wine writer” Chooses To Trust Berkowitz
Richard Auffrey, @RichardPF on Twitter who had been very critical of the motivations behind Legal Seafoods “Blacklisted” fish dinner in the past found reasons to trust Berkowitz after sitting through last night’s Blacklisted Fish Dinner and listening to reason.

Berkowitz & Legal Sea Food: A Matter Of Trust
It began with a provocative press release which unleashed a firestorm of controversy, as well as plenty of free publicity for Legal Sea Food. Subsequent sound bites in the media did nothing to quench the flames, and there was even a call for a boycott of Legal. Two nights ago, the “sustainable seafood” dinner took place and I attended the event, hoping to get closer to the truth of the matter.
Back in December when I first posted about this dinner, I essentially stated that the burden would be on Legal at this dinner to offer answers to all the issues and questions they raised. If they failed to do so, I felt it would be very detrimental to their cause. Their provocative language had raised red flags but I was willing to wait and see what they had to say for themselves, to let them present their case. And at Monday’s dinner, they did exactly that, explaining their position, answering numerous questions and offering much to ponder.

I just hope momma bear Jaqueline Church doesn’t kick Richard out of the den for taking Berkowitz’ side after she had taken shot after shot at Legal Seafoods in her columns on her blog
Richard might just find himself left off the invitation list for the next “pat ourselves on the back because we are elitist food bloggers dinner”
He wouldn’t be missing much though except for a whole lot of hot air.
January 25, 2011 ‘Blacklisted’ meal provokes ‘sustainable’ fisheries debate By Richard Gaines
From the Gloucester Daily Times
Gaines covers the Berkowitz dinner-
BOSTON — For a private dinner at one of his Legal Sea Foods restaurants for which he made the intentionally provocative decision to serve three so-called blacklisted fish, Roger Berkowitz minced the black tiger shrimp but not his words.
It was an evening of food for thought.
"We have sustainable fisheries, now we need sustainable infrastructure. It has to come back to the center," Berkowitz said in a plea for common sense and reason, noting that many years of strict conservation have weakened the fishing industry while strengthening U.S. stocks.
"We are seeing something out of balance," Berkowitz added. "The environmental movement is well financed; the fishermen are not."

Fishing Industry Movie Based Out Of New Bedford
From The Preview It Looks Like They Could Have Just As Easily Said It Was Made In Gloucester As Our Fishermen Are Faced With Similar Fishing Industry Dilemmas. I hope Rob Newton Gets It At Cape Ann Community Cinema
Here’s A Preview-
WHALING CITY is a dramatic narrative feature film set in New Bedford, Mass. in the rapidly changing world of the modern fishing industry. It tells the story of a third-generation independent commercial fisherman, struggling to keep a grasp on his way of life – and a long-held family boat – as costs rise and the heavily regulated fishing industry is pushed towards a corporate model of efficiency. While developing an unlikely relationship with a marine biologist, he is tempted to do whatever it takes to keep his boat. Principal photography was completed in fall 2010, and the film is currently in post-production. The finished film will run approximately 90 minutes in length and is slated to be ready for screenings and festival entries in spring 2011.
The screenplay was workshopped at Columbia University’s graduate film program from 1999 to 2002. It won the 2005 Alfred P. Sloan Screenwriting Award and the 2007 Sloan Feature Film Production Grant, and has been recognized in Daily Variety and The Hollywood Reporter.
WHALING CITY’s campaign – featuring an early trailer for the film – is now live on Kickstarter.com, after our project received an exclusive invitation to be featured on the innovative online funding platform for filmmakers and artists. View Now »
