Virgilio’s small batch vodka cream sauce flies off the shelf. Had to photograph the first time I’ve seen the shelf filled 🙂

The exterior transformation by RePro General Constuction & Design Services (ReProservice.com) for Danielle and Carlo Berdahn’s new Mediterranean bistro, Yella on the Water, is moving right along (in the former Morning Glory space) on Stacy Boulevard.
Before (2013) vs. construction underway (May 2019)

They opened Yella Grille in Andover (and catering) ten years ago.
Great Marsh Brewing Company expansion is well underway on the former Fortune Palace site at 99 Main Street in Essex, Ma. The brew pub makes a statement on the skyline and will have incredible views. Slated to open in the fall of 2019, the new brewery and restaurant received a five million bond boost from MassDevelopment and partnership with Webber Restaurant Group. North shore owner John Collins resides in Newburyport. If progress remains on track, the opening will sync right in with Town of Essex Bicentennial Celebrations in 2019 (see brochure below).

Incredible food, incredible hospitality. 6 Stars Out Of 5, 11 Stars Out Of 10. Thank you Tani!

Though Dog Bar and Landing are closed, you can find Michael O’Leary and friends on alternate Sundays at Jalapenos (only in America!) brought together by their love of traditional music beautifully played, sung and felt. They were at the Farm on St Patrick’s Day, and Lannon music sails.

The Cove Café located 1064 Washington St Gloucester (Lanesville), celebrates their 3rd Anniversary serving breakfast and lunch sandwiches, and some of the best pastries. I picked up a mixed box of pasties and cookies for a dinner function at the DES club, and It was a hit. Congratulations on your 3rd Anniversary tomorrow March 23rd. COVECAFEGLOUCESTER

From John’s bio page for his new Boston restaurant Chickadee–
A lifelong New England resident, Chef/Owner John daSilva, graduated from the New England Culinary Institute in 2004. He trained in various kitchens including The Boarding House on Nantucket Island and Barbara Lynch’s flagship No. 9 Park before opening Spoke Wine Bar in 2013. During his time at Spoke, John received a great deal of critical acclaim, being named one of Zagat’s “30 Under 30” for Boston and earning the title “Rising Star Chef” from StarChefs.com. Most recently John was named “Best Chef, Up & Coming” from Boston Magazine. When he’s not in the kitchen, John enjoys watching the Boston Celtics and visiting local farms with his beautiful wife Molly and their adorable daughter Maple.

Nancy Cooney and her daughter Grace were at City Hall to support plans for Danielle and Carlo Berdahn’s new Mediterranean bistro, Yella on the Water, opening May 1, 2019 in the former Morning Glory space on Stacy Boulevard. They opened Yella Grille in Andover (and catering) ten years ago.
The Gloucester Zoning Board approved some deck work at their waterfront dining site. Grace spoke about how hard her mom works, the bitter sweet closing, and the plans and excitement of these impressive new owners. The Berdahns made the decision easier for her mom to transition to a well-earned retirement and for customers to welcome a new eatery. The family wishes them well and long success in Gloucester, too.

Step through the cheery pink door of Blume Coffee (“Flour Shop”) aside Mayflour Cakes & Confections at Whistlestop mall in Rockport Friday through Sunday for specialty coffees, teas, and hot chocolate (with to die for marshmallows), and not to miss Mayflour Confections daily bake treats.

Way back in my single days I had about ten go-to dishes that were super easy to make for a cooking dummy like me (back before my love of cooking with charcoal began).

Here’s one I used to make all the time when I didn’t have a lot of time but wanted to eat something tasty and filling after a tough day at work.
Ingredients:
Get a rotisserie chicken from Market Basket (or wherever they sell them)
Bowtie pasta
Minced garlic, chopped sundried tomatoes in olive oil
Butter.
Prep:
Boil the bowtie pasta
Chop up the rotisserie chicken into 1 inch or so chunks (leave the skin on for flavor)
Drain the pasta once cooked and stir in butter to coat, minced garlic to taste, chopped sundried tomatos and chopped up chicken. Serve with garlic bread.
Done.
It’s that easy.
New Sunday Hours!
The bar will not close and small bar menu will be available 2:00-4:00

If you have not been to Sherry’s Corner Café, 2 Lexington Avenue, Magnolia, Gloucester, MA , you should make a point to stop in for breakfast or lunch. Her hours are 6:00 AM – 2:00 PM 7 days a week.
The photo below is the garden veggie omelet that is so good. Thank you Sherry for hanging my photos in your restaurant.

Wifey who normally is pretty reserved when reaching across the table could not get enough of her dinner and mine. There were so many “OMG this is amazing” comments after every bite that I lost count.
The room, the service the food taste and presentation- all on point. We’re big fans.
Something happened over the weekend that made me remember that I snapped these photos at Stone’s Pub right around Halloween.
Freddy and I happened to be sitting at the bar for a quick bite when one of Stone’s patrons came in dressed as, none other than, Stone’s bartender Jamie.
Nice job. He did, in fact, shave his head and dye his beard to complete the outfit along with donning the Stone’s Pub t-shirt and jeans.
