Hi Joey,
Here’s a great opportunity for your readers!!! On Sunday, Dec. 5, from 1:00-2:30 PM, MFA lecturer, local summer resident and noted art historian Mimi Braverman will lead a small private tour of the new galleries. She will focus on connections to Gloucester by visiting the maritime galleries and the ship models and tour the furniture galleries where there is furniture similar to that in the Sargent House and some of the other local historic houses. Tickets are $125 per person and are available online at www.sargenthouse.org or by mailing checks to the Sargent House Museum, 49 Middle St., Gloucester MA 01930. Checks need to be received no later than Thursday, Dec. 2, 2010. Space is extremely limited. Because the tour groups will be small, there will be ample opportunity for people to ask questions. For more information, call 978-281-2432.
Thank you for your interest in the Gingerbread House Contest, presented in conjunction with the
community’s annual Middle Street Walk. This year the Walk will be on December 11th.

4.The gingerbread house submitted may take any shape, form or size. Creativity is encouraged
and contestants should model their houses on places real or imaginary, basic or elaborate.
5. Each entry must be submitted on a cardboard, wooden or plastic base. There is no standard
size or shape for the bases although it must be larger than the house.
6. Entries must be dropped off at Kyrouz Auditorium in Gloucester’s City Hall either Thursday,
December 9th between the hours of 8:30 AM and 6:30 PM or on Friday, December 10th
between the hours of 8:30 AM and 4:00 PM. There is an elevator in case you need it as the
Auditorium is on the second floor. Judging will occur prior to the start of the Middle
Street Walk which begins at 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 11th and ends at 4:00 PM.
Entries will be on display to the public that day at City Hall until it closes at 3:00 PM.
Contestants can pick up their houses at that time or can pick them the next week during
regular City Hall hours.
7. Prize ribbons will be awarded in numerous categories as stated on the entry form.
8. Please let us know if you are planning to submit a gingerbread house by registering over the
phone to either of the following contacts: Barbara Catalini of Cakes by Barbara at 978-

Took a bike ride over to MFA after lunch today to see the new wing. I was totally blown away. The open space, the light, the paint on the walls, the doors, the floor, all were amazing. And the same art that was in the old now glows in this new space. John Singer Sargent, John Singleton Copley both get big space and the difference is profound. Those halibuts in Winslow Homer’s boat never looked more forlorn as the fog rolls in.
Upstairs Edward Hopper has two (EXLAX and woman looking out window in Brooklyn) , Henry Fitz Lane has tons in two different locations. One gallery he shares with Martin Johnson Heade then downstairs are boats and more Henry Fitz.
Completely overwhelming. I had to go into the old part up to room 255 to check out the Monet, Manet, Van Gogh’s and Renoir’s just to get my bearings. Beautiful paintings but the room seemed so drab after viewing the new wing. And the lighting just plain sucked compared to the new wing. I hope they get some paint and some new light bulbs for the old part.
This new wing is going to be my favorite place to hang out on cold dark winter days.

Sorry, Mr. Morrision your Scientific Theory of the Rock Jumping back into the Sea has been disproved.
Email from the Finder;
“I just wanted to let you know that I found “your” Good Harbor Beach Rock and am just delighted with it. I follow Good Morning Gloucester daily. When I saw the rock on the site Sunday morning I just knew I had to have it. So, my husband and I raced off to Good Harbor Beach because we knew just where it was perched and we believe we had an advantage because of the time change. What makes this rock even more special to me is that I have worked in the house in which you sketched on the rock for the past 23 years. Thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to have such a special piece of art in my home. I look forward to finding more of your Art Rocks. Thank you”
The Finder didn’t give me her name. She’s welcomed to leave a comment if she likes.
Jennifer L inspired me to start a new series here on GMG called the GMG Cell Phone Pic Series.
I know with technology today that many of you have cell phones. Well maybe this will inspire you top figure out how to use ‘em!
If you would like to have your pictures displayed snap a photo with your cell phone camera and email it in to goodmorninggloucester@yahoo.com put GMG Cell Phone Pic in the subject line and I’ll post em and make a photo slide show of them.
It doesn’t have to be landscapes. It can be a meal at a local restaurant, your kids with their GMG Sticker, anything!![]()
Hi Joey,
