The fourth program of The Writer’s Block with John Ronan’s 30th anniversary features Chris Leahy on Birds of Mongolia, co-written with Gombobaatar Sundev.
“Mongolia is one the most unspoiled regions on earth, rich in spectacular landscapes, and home to abundant wildlife and some of the world’s rarest birds. Chris Leahy is an expert naturalist and birder and has been exploring Mongolia since 1982. Leahy served as Director of Mass Audubon’s Center for Biological Conservation and is the holder of the Bertrand Chair (emeritus). Gombobaatar Sundev is Mongolia’s most famous ornithologist.”

Laura asks GMG to share a reminder for tonight and writes:
I’m speaking in Rockport as part of the UU Church’s Daring Democracy series. If you can post about it, I’d be most grateful.
We decided to sing about some unsung heroes – the women who led the fight for the right to vote. This amazing story is not in most history books, and if you can find it in high school text books, please let me know. I’ll be talking about the musical we wrote – PERFECT 36 – about the ratification of the 19th Amendment giving women the right to vote at the UU Church in Rockport on 11/14 @ 7. Please join me. This story – which took place in 1920 – feels a whole lot like 2020 and is more relevant than ever.

Beautiful opion letter and reminder by Mark Nestor Gloucester Daily Times:

“…From there, Gloucester adjusted by switching to three strikers. But Lynnfield countered that by bringing back a fifth defender to clog up the passing lanes.
“We knew adding an extra striker would put some extra pressure on their defense,” Marnoto said. “And it did but they added an extra defender and when they won the ball they got it out wide. That gave them time to regroup and kept us from getting into our shape.” Both goal keepers were also a factor.” – Nick Curcuru excerpt

excerpt –
“…Then early last year, “Expedition Unknown,” a television show on the Discovery Channel, did a special on “The Secret” that set off a new frenzy of treasure hunters.
“I’ve been making travel adventure shows for 10 years, and I’ve never seen anything like the reaction to that show,” said Josh Gates, the show’s host, who is a Tufts grad and a native of Manchester-by-the-Sea. “So many people contacted me, and a lot of them were from the Boston area because it’s long been believed that one of them was hidden there.”
The Krupat children, 12-year-old Molly and 10-year-old Jack, saw the episode and called their parents into the room, knowing this would be right up their father’s alley. Jason Krupat makes his living as a puzzle and game designer. Soon, the family began making weekend trips into the city to work on what had come to be known as “the Boston verse.”
