David John Moore Cornwell Quote of The Week From Greg Bover

“Sometimes we do a thing in order to find out the reason for it. Sometimes our actions are questions not answers.”
David John Moore Cornwell, (John Le Carre 1931 – ) Magnus Pym in "A Perfect Spy"

LeCarre’s espionage novels defined the moral ambiguity of the cold war for many readers. His best known work, The Spy Who Came in from the Cold, and many of his later novels are semi-autobiographical, exposing the difficulties of growing up with a con-man father, and LeCarre’s service in MI-5 and MI-6. His themes often revolve around the nature of secrets and the destructive force they wield on their holders. In recent years, Le Carre’s opposition to the Iraq War and the Bush administration has returned him to the public eye, although he is said to be writing still in his eightieth year.

“2010 Top Mentalist In North America” To Perform In Gloucester on Monday, June 13

mazeheadshot

On Monday, June 13th at 8:00 pm mentalist Davis Viera will perform his comedy mentalism show at the Gorton Theatre, home of the Gloucester Stage Company, 267 East Main Street, Gloucester. Tickets are $20-$25 and available by calling The Gloucester Stage Company Box Office at (978) 281-4433 or visiting www.gloucesterstage.org. Mr. Viera was recently named the “2010 Top Mentalist in North America” by GigMasters.com known as The Amazon.com for entertainers. “It’s quite an honor for me. There were almost 500 other mentalists in the running. Many of them are great mentalists who I look up to – Including the inspiration for Simon Baker’s television character in The Mentalist.”

Mr. Viera, a Taunton, MA resident doesn’t claim to be psychic. “I don’t read minds, I read people,” says Viera. “I simulate real mind reading by reading body language and non-verbal cues, by using subliminal influence, psychological suggestion, and perceptual manipulation to achieve what looks like genuine mind reading. It’s not psychic, but it’s as close as you could ever get.” By simply studying an audience member’s non-verbal communication (body language, facial expressions, eye movement, etc.) Davis can intuit numbers, words, or even pictures that exist only in audience member’s minds. Mr. Viera shows the difference between perception and reality by influencing an audience member’s perception of an event. Everyone clearly sees one thing, yet the volunteer experiences something completely different! He can also predict any newspaper headline weeks or even months in advance with incredible accuracy.

.

Mr. Viera, who is working on a television show of his own, will put his unique brand of award-winning mentalism combined with his quick wit on full-display on Monday, June 13 in Gloucester. He’ll determine the thoughts of random audience volunteers, he’ll quickly memorize entire magazine issues, and he’ll humorously solve a CSI-style murder mystery in a way that gets him standing ovations across the country.

Comedy Mentalist Davis Viera presents this mind-blowing entertainment event at The Gorton Theatre, home of the Gloucester Stage Company, 267 East Main Street Gloucester, MA. Doors open at 7:30 pm and show starts at 8:00 pm. Tickets are $20-$25 and are available by calling The Gloucester Stage Company Box Office at (978) 281-4433 or visiting http://www.gloucesterstage.org.

Oasis Rockport- Shoeboxes For Kids Donation Center

Angela Writes-

I was wondering if you would help me get the word out.  I have established a Cape Ann Chapter of Shoeboxes For Kids, an organization that has done a lot in helping out after the devastation in Joplin.  The Cape Ann Chapter is helping out those affected by the recent tornadoes in Massachusetts. Details are below:

Would you like to help after the recent devastation caused by the tornadoes in Massachusetts?  We are taking collections for the Cape Ann Chapter of Shoeboxes For Kids.

Our goal is to give a little hope to the children devastated or affected by the tornadoes. The shoe boxes contain items such as Play Doh, coloring books, crayons, sidewalk chalk, jump rope, small stuffed animals etc. Would you like to help us help out?  If you would like to put together a box and send it to us or bring it by the Oasis Rockport gallery we will arrange for delivery to the areas affected by the recent tornadoes in Western Massachusetts.

Please place items in a shoe or a plastic box and mark boy or girl and approximate age range.  We will take care of the rest. These boxes will be distributed to shelters, schools, churches, anywhere they can be distributed to the children to give them hope in these sad times.

Donation Center is located at:
