Registration is now open for CAPE ANN ARTS ALIVE, a late-summer arts program for children, designed to foster pride and a sense of belonging to the rich cultural heritage of
Cape Ann through music, dance, theater, art, and engagement with nature and community.

WHO: For children (age 6-12) and teenage mentors (age 13-17).
WHAT:An experiential performance/arts program.
Each morning is full of singing, dancing, theatrics, and art projects that reflect the unique essence of Cape Ann. In the past we have explored the legends of Dogtown and the Gloucester Harbor, the story of Joan of Arc on Washington St., the Bells and the Sculptures of Gloucester, the Times and Tides of Cape Ann over centuries, and the many different Boats that have traversed her waters. Our theme for 2023? Gloucester’s400+yearhistory, of course!
WHERE: St. John’s Episcopal Church, 48 Middle St., Gloucester.
Daily activities are based at SJC’s versatile, centrally located facility, with two excursions:
- Tuesday, Cape Ann Museum for a guided tour and hands-on workshop
- Wednesday, a harbor sail on the Schooner Adventure.
WHEN: August 21-25, Monday-Friday, 8:30am –1:00 pm.
InAddition:Therewillbeperformanceopportunitiesinthefallforthe“CAAASingers”,anoptionalextensionofourSummerProgram.WehavealreadybeeninvitedtoperformattheopeningreceptionfortheannualSchoonerFestivalonLaborDayweekend,attheannualMiddleStreetWalkonDecember 9th,andafewotherGloucester400+communityevents,detailspending.
HOW:Each morning children will rotate through a schedule of music/dance/theater/arts activities, led by a staff of artist/musician educators and other facilitators.
WHY: Because it is soooooo much FUN to learn about this magnificent region, and celebrate with friends and community through the arts!
OUR MISSION is to foster children’s appreciation for the unique environment, history and culture of Cape Ann, as well as their sense of belonging to the ongoing story of this unique region. Through the creative disciplines of music, visual arts, theater, dance, and connection with the people and places of the area, we strive to cultivate curiosity, encourage artistic expression, build confidence and a desire to engage generously with peers and community.
