COMPLIMENTARY
FINE WINE TASTING @ SAVOUR WITH BROOKE OVERHISER OF MARTIGNETTI’S CONNOISSEUR WINE DIVISION
Martignetti Companies began as a family-owned grocery business in Boston’s North End. Upon the repeal of Prohibition in 1933, the Martignetti family received the very first beverage alcohol retail license issued in Massachusetts. Through the years, the retail business included wine and spirits shops across the Boston metro area.
In the 1970’s, the family expanded the distribution and wholesale business, focusing on fine wines. Through organic growth, new supplier portfolio appointments and well executed acquisitions, the distribution side of Martignetti Companies flourished. The Martignetti portfolio has now grown to encompass the broadest selection of fine wines and spirits in the marketplace, from unique artisanal producers to global leading suppliers. The Connoisseur division specializes in boutique fine wines from around the globe.

Chateau l’Escarelle, Provence, France
This week, we pour two Rosés from Chateau l’Escarelle Estate, 100 hectares of vines that grow in the midst of 1,000 hectares of stunning, protected countryside in the heart of Provence, a wild landscape with garrigues and oak trees mixed with typical Provencal plants. Yann Pineau, a captain of French industry, has devoted himself to his role of owner and wine producer at Chateau l’Escarelle. Founder of the Itancia Endowment Fund for the protection of nature (fondsdedotationitancia.com), Pineau undertook to develop the estate while at the same time ensuring that its exceptional natural environment was preserved. Pineau is deeply committed to preserving and bringing out the best in this natural environment and has undertaken various projects, such as the restoration of existing buildings for wine and nature tourism, and also an organic certification of the entire estate. The PACA LPO (French league for birds protection) was invited to carry out an initial survey of biodiversity on the estate in 2014. The resulting inventories demonstrated a strong biodiversity, with the presence of no less than 95 species of butterfly. Thanks to the support of the ITANCIA Endowment Fund, Château de l’Escarelle became a pilot site dedicated to the study and preservation of butterflies. Chateau de l’Escarelle is in the process of converting to organic viticulture and boasts a prestigious HVE (Haute Valeur Environnementale) certification for its strict eco-friendly and sustainable practices.
