GLOUCESTER 一 Chief Edward Conley is pleased to announce that the Gloucester Police Department is welcoming two new officers who graduated from the police academy.
Officer Julio Mercado and Officer Olivia Durgin graduated from the Northern Essex Community College Police Academy on Friday, March 10.
Officer Mercado grew up in Salem and graduated from Salem State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. Prior to policing, Officer Mercado worked in security for local hospitals where his focus was assisting medical staff with patients specifically dealing with mental health and substance abuse issues.
Officer Mercado enjoys spending time with his four children, going to the gym, watching sports, and coaching youth sports.
Officer Durgin is a lifelong resident of Gloucester and graduated from Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School in 2011. Before coming to the Gloucester Police Department, Officer Durgin worked in retail.
Officer Durgin has a very close relationship with her family and friends. In her spare time, she enjoys lifting heavy weights at the gym, going to the beach, and spending time with her loved ones.
“I am pleased to welcome these two well-qualified individuals to the Gloucester Police Department,” said Chief Conley. “They demonstrate great commitment to their community, and I believe they will be a great asset to Gloucester and its residents.”
