Alicia Unleashed -The Return of the Mo’ bros

Episode 102!

Listener Discretion is advised for this one. We said it in our opener but we must repeat, the Cast of Alicia Unleashed and our Guests are NOT medical/psychological professionals.

IT’S OUR ANNUAL VISIT WITH THE MO’BROS, Ben Cannon, Geoff Turke and Tom Leard!

We catch up with the guys and talk about what has happened in the last year since we left Tom’s dining room table! 3 Weddings, Baptisms, New Jobs, 18 month olds, 17 month olds and of course we talk about Zooming!

Just like the past 2 years sitting down with the ‘Bros, we discuss Men’s Health and the Movember Movement. This year being the year it is, the ‘Bros and the Movember Movement have focused more on Awareness and Mental Health Awareness and we get iiiiiiiiiiiin to it!

We discuss what it is like to be part of a movement that is about Awareness of Prostate & Testicular Cancers and Male Depression as it is raising funds for programs to assist with awareness in a PANDEMIC! (unsure if you guys knew we were in one).

In true Alicia Unleashed fashion, WE TALK ABOUT BALLS (and self exploration…probably the best moment in 102 episodes)!

If there is anything you do this week, give it a listen or give the website a look (or give this episode a like or a share).

Here are some resources that were discussed in this episode. If you or someone you know are struggling, please reach out to one of these numbers or sites. There is no shame in asking for help, these guys will attest to this. Also give these guys a dollar or two (if you can).

Scenes from the Wall on Dolliver’s Neck

Sometimes I like to walk down to the wall on Old House Cove near the old Coast Guard station and sit awhile. The gentle waves, the lighthouse, boats and birds are very soothing sights. Here are some sights I saw during a recent walk that brought a smile to my face. Thought you might need them today too.

In 2019, Dr. Kaelin received the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for his work with tumor suppressing proteins, using a variety of molecular and cellular approaches to understand how, mechanistically, these proteins prevent tumor growth.

Please join us on Thursday, November 19th at 7:30pm on Zoom to hear Dr. Kaelin’s journey from being a “C-” student to earning one of the most prestigious awards in medicine.

You can register for this talk here.

GLOUCESTER CULTURAL COUNCIL SEEKS FUNDING PROPOSALS

Proposals for community-oriented arts, humanities, and science programs due December 14th.

The Mass Cultural Council has set a December 14th deadline for organizations, schools, and individuals to apply for grants that support cultural activities in the community.

The Gloucester Cultural Council invites you to apply for a grant for your arts, humanities, and/or science program. This year we plan to give priority to programs that:

have a direct link to Gloucester

are accessible to diverse groups of people

demonstrate innovative ways to bring science to the public

build momentum and create vitality within the community

According to Council spokesperson Elizabeth Neumeier these grants can support a variety of artistic projects and activities in Gloucester — including exhibits, festivals, field trips, short-term artist residencies, or performances in schools, workshops, and lectures.

The Gloucester Cultural Council is part of a network of 329 Local Cultural Councils serving all 351 cities and towns in the Commonwealth. The LCC Program is the largest grassroots cultural funding network in the nation, supporting thousands of community-based projects in the arts, sciences and humanities every year. The state legislature provides an annual appropriation to the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency, which then allocates funds to each community.

This year, the Gloucester Cultural Council will distribute about $10,000 in grants. Previously funded projects include: The Gloucester Writer’s Center Magma Gloucester, The Cape Ann Symphony, Rockport Music, The Musary and Manship Artists Residency.

For local guidelines and complete information on the Gloucester Cultural Council, contact Elizabeth Neumeier at GloucesterCulturalCouncil@gmail.com. Application forms and more information about the Local Cultural Council Program are available online at

Yummy recipe from Cape Ann Olive Store

Maple Balsamic & Herb Chicken

Ingredients:

  • ¼ cup Maple Balsamic Vinegar
  • 2 Tbsp pure maple syrup
  • 1 Tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • ½ tsp. fresh thyme
  • ⅛ tsp. cayenne
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 2 Tbsp Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Directions:

  1. In small bowl, whisk together balsamic vinegar, maple syrup, mustard, garlic, thyme, cayenne and salt and pepper. Pour sauce into a large plastic baggy and add chicken breasts. (I like to pound out the chicken breasts to ensure they each have the same thickness so they cook evenly) Marinate the chicken for at least 30 minutes or even overnight.
  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat until oil shimmers, about 3 to 4 minutes. Using tongs, remove chicken breasts from baggy (leaving the marinade inside) and arrange in the pan. Allow chicken to cook for about 7 to 8 minutes, without moving, so a nice golden-brown crust forms. Flip chicken over and cook the other side for another 7 to 8 minutes. You’ll know the chicken is done when the juices run clear and the inside temp has reached 160 to 165 degrees.
  3. Remove chicken and place on a cutting board to rest then pour the remaining marinade into the heated skillet. Scrape up any brown bits and allow marinade to bubble up and cook, stirring occasionally.
  4. Add chicken back into the skillet, coating well. Serve and enjoy!

Cape Ann Olive Oil Co. will ship any balsamic and olive oil. Go to the link below to connect to our website to place your order. We hope you enjoy this recipe! We appreciate your business.
