The photographer’s eye is always searching. It seeks the unusual and captures the unexpected in the most — or the least — distinctive of places. Odd Bits is how photographers Sally Gregg and Michael McKeen term the selection of poetic images they’ve culled from years of searching the world around them. I asked each to comment on their works. Here are their words:
Odd Bits —suggestions, reflections, questions;
states of mind/states of place—
the state of affairs that is the case.
What is up, down?
What is a photograph?
Black or white or color?
Thicket — tangles, snarls,
energy vectors, life force,
inversions into cyanotype
Ocean — stillness, quiet, calm;
frothiness and swells;
black, white, and gray;
Transit — motion, blur, fog, and color
— Sally Gregg
A collection of pictures that are betwixt and
A collection of pictures that have been made
here and there.
A collection of pictures in which the world
presents itself as familiar and strange.
A collection of pictures that explore
photography as a medium.
Pictures of city streets, street signage, shop
windows, torn posters, graffiti, skies,
