GOOD MORNING BROUGHT TO YOU BY BRACE COVE SUNRISE AND SEASMOKE

Several days ago at daybreak after photographing the setting Moon, I popped over to Brace Cove. The temperature was 19, the wind was biting. and my hands were already frozen stiff from photographing the Moon. I only stayed for a moment but as you can see, the seas smoke was rising in the distance. Happy for the return of warmer temperatures, albeit however brief!

Off of Shore Road on Wednesday

Here was my question:  Anyone know what this is called, it is a Meteorology term? Happens when it is very cold outside and it looks like a tanker that hovers over the ocean?   Thanks

Catherine Hull was able to answer my questions.   It’s an optical illusion. “The phenomenon is called a Fata Morgana mirage, and involves a complex trick of the light. Caused by a narrow band of light above the horizon, the Fata Morgana gives the impression an object is actually floating above the water. The mirage distorts an object, and can occur on land, sea, polar regions and deserts.”

@FishermenGHS News: 6pm tonight!! Head down to Newell Stadium to cheer on the squad as the play NEC counterpart Saugus.

Seals Frolicking at Salisbury Beach

After October 31, Salisbury Beach State Reservation charges no parking fee so we look forward to when we can return there to take a look around. On our first trip in the off season, we were rewarded with frolicking seals. Apparently a number of them had been hauled out on the rocks during low tide, but something spooked them back into the water just as we arrived (I do not believe there is a correlation here 🙂 ) Only one remained on the rocks with a sunning bird for company. Others were swimming a flipping themselves around as if they were glad the off season had arrived too.
