Middle Schoolers on GHS Teams
At this time, all GHS sports are open for 9th-12th graders to register. Decisions and waiver requests are on a sport by sport basis once there is a good idea of registration status. If a GHS sport is opened up to 8th graders or 7th & 8th graders we will post that.
If you have any questions please contact me.
Thank you,
Bryan Lafata
Cheers!
I always look forward to reading about all of the places that GMG’s Pat and Jim visit during their busy weeks….and seeing what wonderful photos they take along the way. I was happy to bump into them on the deck of Captain Carlos the other day. Our plans suddenly changed, my brother was in town from California, my mother, dad, and sister were all available….so we decided to grab a bite and a drink in the deck on the sun. Pat and Jim were doing the very same thing.
Cheers to you two!

Pet of the Week- Mr. Buddy

Mr. Buddy here, and I’m a handsome shepherd mix guy. I made my way to CAAA all the way from Texas where someone had dumped me. Luckily some nice people found me and took me in and fostered me until I was ready to make the journey north. I’m a social guy and I love people, and my foster says I get along well with other dogs. I wouldn’t do well in a home with cats because I want to play with them and that tends to freak them out. Other than that I’m pretty darn perfect. Don’t just take my word for it though, come find out for yourself!
To learn more about me or other animals waiting for homes, please come visit our shelter at 4 Paws Lane in Gloucester or check us out online at www.capeannanimalaid.org.

3 Baby Hawks in Backyard Nest!
To update you on the backyard red tailed hawk nest that we have been watching, we now believe there are at least 3 chicks in there.
It’s difficult to get clear shots of the nest through the trees, but Jim did a great job recently:

Flexing wings:

I think there’s 3 here. That nest must be pretty large.

Parent in nest perhaps bringing breakfast to the brood:

Watchful parent nearby:

WE LOST A CHICK LAST NIGHT
So sorry to have to post that we lost one of our little chicks last night. It’s impossible to know what happened; there were not tracks or signs of unusual activity. Could it be the chick became separated from the family in the heavy fog and last night’s thunderstorm? We’ve seen chicks survive on similar nights and we lost one in 2017 after a thunderstorm. They are only three days old today so I imagine the rough weather is rough on the chicks, too.

SWEETEST ONE-DAY-OLD PIPING PLOVER CHICKS AND HOW TO SIGN UP TO VOLUNTEER
We had a terrific informal Piping Plover informational gathering at Good Harbor Beach this afternoon. If you would like to sign up to volunteer, please follow this easy link. We would love to have you join us.
If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at kimsmithdesigns@hotmail.com or leave a comment in the comment section.
Today the chicks are two days old; the photos are from yesterday at daybreak. It was foggy and overcast and the chicks mostly wanted to warm up under Mama and Papa.
All four chicks are doing fantastically, feeding well and venturing further and further from the upper wrack zone. Because of the cool temperatures, the beach has been relatively quieter this past spring, which has been ideal not only for our GHB PiPl family, but for nesting and hatching PiPl families all around the state.
GOOD MORNING GLOUCESTER’S ADORABLE NEW MASCOT “BEAU”
Kayaking on Saturday
During a wonderful kayak on Saturday the fog rolled back in. It was so pretty.

Gloucester Visitors Welcome Center
I am volunteering at the Visitor Center again this year and recently worked my first 2019 shift. It’s such an amazing resource! Water is even available now with a new “Bubbla” fountain to fill water bottles. I took home a couple of brochures myself so I encourage residents and visitors to stop in and say “Hello”.

And with a view like this from the desk, why wouldn’t I volunteer? Wow.

All Six Condos on Former Amelia’s Site SOLD on 4/22/19
GLOUCESTER, MA – McDermott & MacCarthy of Gibson Sotheby’s International Realty, has successfully marketed and sold all six luxury units, known as Good Harbor Beachside Condominiums, to one investor. Located directly across from Gloucester’s well-known Good Harbor Beach, Good Harbor Beachside Condominiums is a new construction development on the former site of Amelia’s Restaurant. Bob and Sue McDermott and Kenny MacCarthy, who live on Cape Ann and serve clients on Massachusetts’ North Shore, sold all six units for $5.5 million to The Brennan Group, a Boston-based real estate investment and development firm. According to public records, the trade took place on 4/22/19.
“We were staging, shooting video, and preparing for six individual sales on the open market when we decided to pre-launch the units with our Whisper Campaign. Yet again, our strategy was successful,” said Kenny MacCarthy of McDermott & MacCarthy. “Our client was…
