Please join us on Saturday Dec 8th for a FREE class where we will teach you how to “Stop the Bleed”.  Stop the Bleed is a national campaign to encourage bystanders to become trained, equipped, and empowered to help in a life-threatening bleeding emergency before professional help arrives.

Uncontrolled bleeding is a major cause of preventable deaths. Approximately 40% of trauma-related deaths worldwide are due to bleeding or its consequences, establishing hemorrhage as the most common cause of preventable death in trauma.

Simple measures can save many lives. We will teach you how.

Recently Briar Forsythe, my friend and proprietor of the North Shore’s newest inn and special events venue, the Briar Barn Inn, invited me to again visit the property and photograph their progress. You can see photos from April here.

You will simply be knocked out by the beauty of the architecture and exquisite interior details. The buildings perfectly meld with the pastoral landscape, paying lovely homage to the area’s agricultural roots.

Some of the details will melt your heart. For example–architect Gerald Fandetti and designer Charlotte Forsythe, many, many years ago, rescued the gorgeous arching windows you see pictured here. The windows have been incorporated into the architecture of the Barn and will flank the entryway vestibule. Imagine storing these huge unwieldy windows for decades, not knowing if they would ever find a new life.

Generous Gardeners get a Pizza Break

On a cold brisk day the Generous Gardeners get home-made Pizza by Sal,  delivered for a well deserved break.   The Generous Gardeners started the planting of the Tulips for next Springs Tulip Festival on Stacy Boulevard.  Sal makes his pizza from scratch at home, he too is a Generous helper.  Thank you all for keeping Gloucester Beautiful.

Last spring a Homer image of Gloucester boys in a dory fetched $400,000. Relatable, though not Gloucester: Life Brigade is expected to fetch 4x that amount at Sotheby’s; another classic motif , Gathering Wild Blackberries, is estimated to sell for $150,000-$200,000. There is a smashing Marsden Hartley of Dogtown.

Pet of the Week- Lottie

Hi there, my name is Lottie! I am a sweet girl who is a little over two years old. I made my way to Cape Ann Animal Aid with several other lucky pups looking for a home of my own. My foster mom cared for me for several weeks; I stayed with her in the country and I really enjoyed going for walks with her. She said I especially liked milk bones and my monkey toy!

I am considered a special needs adoption because I recently finished up a course of treatment for heartworm. I will need to continue to be on an exercise restriction for a while and follow up with my new vet in the future.
