Medley – An exhibition of paintings by Barbara Donnelly will open in the Marguerite Pearson Room of the Rockport Art Association & Museum (RAA&M) on Saturday, October 27th with an artist’s reception from 2 – 4 PM. The exhibition will be on view Saturday, October 27 – Thursday, November 8.
“A New England native, I have a natural love of the seacoast. Wherever I am in the world, the water, boats, nearby villages and the local people have a spirit that engages me. To saturate my paintings with the color, light and life that embrace their true “essence” is my desire. To ‘capture the moment’ en plein air is pure pleasure.” – Barbara Donnelly
Donnelly, painting her whole life and an art graduate of Boston University, had an art studio/gallery on the working waterfront on Harbor Loop, Gloucester for twenty-two years until 2015. Previously she had a working studio in the Gloucester Academy for fifteen years. Currently she paints in a studio in downtown Beverly and in her lake house studio in NH.
As well as painting New England, she has enjoyed painting abroad, studying the varying light, landscape and architecture in France, Ireland, Scotland, Canada, Puerto Rico, Portugal and China. Her work has found collectors in each of these countries.
“A life-defining moment was winning an international award of an Artist-in-Residency to paint in France. Living alone for two months in a small cottage by a canal, I made friends, became fluent in the language and have returned to different regions of France frequently to paint. Being invited to have a six week long One Artist Exhibition of the French paintings at l’Ambassade de France (French Embassy) in Washington, D.C. was an exciting experience and a singular honor for an American artist.”
– Barbara Donnelly

Have You Ever Seen The Rain?

Lyrics:
Someone told me long ago
There’s a calm before the storm,
I know; It’s been comin’ for some time.
When it’s over, so they say,
It’ll rain a sunny day,
I know; Shinin’ down like water.
CHORUS:
I want to know,
Have you ever seen the rain?
I want to know,
Have you ever seen the rain
Comin’ down on a sunny day?
Yesterday, and days before,
Sun is cold and rain is hard,
I know; Been that way for all my time.
‘Til forever, on it goes
Through the circle, fast and slow,
I know; It can’t stop, I wonder.
CHORUS
Yeah!
