Cape Ann Youth Hockey vs. Beijing, China
On Saturday night Cape Ann Youth Hockey’s Squirt 1 team was invited to play a team in town from Beijing, China. The team from China was in town as part of a cultural exchange program with the Boston Bruins. The Bruins and the Valley Hockey League invited Squirt 1 to play Beijing at the Porrazzo Arena in East Boston. While Cape Ann was happy to be victorious with a score of 7-2, more importantly the team was honored to have the opportunity to build bridges with hockey friends from China. At the end of the game, Cape Ann’s coaching staff presented the visiting team with CAYH pins to take with them as they return to China.

The fate of a bill that adds a 5 cent deposit on nip liquor bottles sold in Massachusetts will be decided this Wednesday, Feb 7.
Contact Rep. Thomas Golden at 617-722-2263 and Thomas.Golden@mahouse.gov or Sen. Mike Barrett at 617-722-1572 and Mike.Barrett@masenate.gov to voice your support.
While a 5-cent deposit will not eliminate the vast amounts of nip litter in Massachusetts, we believe this is a common-sense way to reduce the problem

New GMG Series: Stories From Vietnam Illustrated And Told By Our Friend Hussey
Tuffy shares:
David Hussey and I started fishing together in Nahant MA in the early 70’s. I was 16 and he was 30, and he had just gotten back from spending over a year in the jungles of Vietnam as a Staff Sargent. Eventually he was transferred to the base (the rear), to serve as a Supply Sargent for the rest of his tour. This transfer saved his life.
The stories below I’ve known for years, they would be shared on long days out at sea over the 35 years we were partners. Back then, there wasn’t as much awareness about PTSD or therapy available for people leaving war, and I was glad to listen.
There are so many brutalities of war that most of us will be lucky enough to never know. For soldiers, these memories can constantly loop in their mind, sometimes for the rest of their lives. These are David Hussey’s.

Joint Status Report of the Attorney General and Trustees of the Berkshire
Date: 02/05/2018
The Substituted Plaintiff-Appellant Attorney General Maura Healey (“AGO”) and Defendant-Appellee Trustees of the Berkshire Museum (the “Museum”) submit this joint status report.
The AGO has now concluded its investigation into the decision by the Museum to sell 40 works from its collection. The additional time granted by this Court for the investigation permitted the AGO, with the Museum’s cooperation, to undertake additional review of inter alia over 1500 documents and interview further key Museum employees and board members. The AGO believes that the 40 works at issue are subject to restrictions, which the Museum does not believe exist. The AGO and the Museum have agreed to resolve these differences and will file a petition for judicial relief pursuant to the principles of equitable instruction, deviation and/or cy pres with the Single Justice of the Supreme Judicial Court on February 9, 2018 or shortly thereafter. The AGO will support the relief requested by the petition. In addition, the Museum will not sell any of the 40 works until the SJC acts on the petition or until the Berkshire County Superior Court enters final judgment regarding the AGO’s complaint in the matter captioned Rockwell et al. v. Trustees of the Berkshire Museum, No. 17-253 (allowing, if the Museum should prevail, for 7 calendar days post-judgment for the AGO to seek further relief pending appeal), should such proceedings again become necessary. The Museum and the AGO intend to file a motion in the trial court requesting that proceedings there be held in abeyance while the aforementioned petition is pending. As a result of these commitments by the Museum, the AGO does not seek any further injunctive relief or stay of Superior Court proceedings at this time.

SOCIABLE SQUIRREL -By Kim Smith
On my way home from visiting my daughter Liv who lives in Brooklyn, I stopped at several locations along the Connecticut coast where Snowy Owls have recently been sighted. Although no owls materialized, it was super interesting to learn about the diverse range of habitats hosting Snowies during this fantastic Snowy Owl irruption of 2017-2018. Liv and I spent Saturday morning exploring Jamaica Bay wildlife refuge and other habitats along the Brooklyn coastline where Snowies are also spending the winter. Photos to come when I have time to sort through but in the meantime, this funny little squirrel followed me about the Connecticut Audubon Refuge, coming quite close and seemingly wanting to play hide and seek. I played along for a bit and wished I had a peanut in my pocket 🙂
